BC Parks Set Record for Reservations

Friday, August 30, 2013 @ 3:50 AM
Prince George, B.C. – It has been a banner year for BC Parks when it comes to reservations at provincial campsites.

Heading into the long weekend, more than 115 thousand camping reservations had been made through the Provincial camping reservation system “Discover Camping.” That’s 12% more than had been made in 2012.

BC Parks says the long stay camping program was another highlight of the year. Under that program, visitors can stay at one of 6 provincial parks from 4 to 6 months at a reduced rated. Crooked River Provincial Park north of Prince George is one park which offers the extended stay program.

The best provincial park I stayed on reservation at this year was the Elk Falls Provincial Park in Campbell River.

5 minute walk to downtown shopping and the piers, as well as great hiking in the park right from the campsite. The real amazing thing about this park though is the huge old growth trees that surround the campsites, and I mean amazing huge tall trees, with nice private clean sites. The water fall on the Campbell River is one of the most scenic I’ve ever seen dropping a hundred feet or more into a secluded canyon. Campbell River is so lucky to have a true west coast provincial park right next to their downtown.

Yeah was there many years ago. Elk Falls is a pretty park.

Yes, we do have a lot of nice parks.

We are very lucky here in BC with our beautiful provincial parks. I just wish that we didn’t have to pay the reservation fee each time. It starts to add up when you are booking for a week at a time.
