Contest Seeks Sustainability Champions

Monday, September 2, 2013 @ 4:22 AM

Prince George, BC – BC Hydro is offering a financial boost to non-profits that promote sustainability…

The ‘Community Champions’ contest is offering up five $10-thousand dollar conservation awards to help BC groups further their environmental initiatives.

Last year’s winners included a program that developed schoolyard gardens in North Vancouver, teaching students how to grow and cook their own food; and water conservation and stewardship in lake communities in the Kootenay region.

Interested groups are being asked to explain their project in a three-minute YouTube video, to be submitted by September 30th.  BC Hydro will select up to 15 finalists and the public will be able to determine three winners by voting for their favourite videos between October 15th and November 15th.  The remaining two winners will be determined by a panel of judges.

Hydro is encouraging BC classrooms to get involved in voting for a winner, with each class that votes being entered into a draw to win $1000 for a sustainability project at their school.

I think the PGRPAC Society should win that hands down.

For at least 50 years the people continuously interested in furthering their objectives have sustained their drive to reach for them and proven that their efforts have been sustainable and will likely continue to be so well into the future given the environment in which they continue to find themselves.

Bless their collective souls for their dedication. ;-)
