Prince George- Damage to the home on James Drive  that was hit by a pickup truck early Saturday morning is estimated to be in the range of $100,000 dollars.

RCMP investigating officers say their investigation into the crash which saw the truck leave Ospika, drive through an open lot, through the back yard of the home on James, flipping over as it approached the home and then plowing rear end into the deck at the rear of the residence is not yet complete. No indication has been given as to the rate of speed the vehicle was travelling at when the accident occurred . Police say they are in the preliminary stages of the investigation.

A resident of the home escaped serious injury in the crash. He had just gone to the bathroom when the crash occurred. The driver and passenger in the truck also escaped serious injury.

ICBC says if the home owners insurance is in place they will repair the damage and then proceed to collect from ICBC under the drivers liability insurance policy . If on the other hand the vehicle does not have sufficient liability insurance ICBC would pay the insurance company holding  the policy on the  home and then proceed to collect from the driver and owner of the truck.

Director of Operations for the City Of Prince George, Bill Gaal says the city has only ever received one complaint about that particular curve and that complaint did not come from the motoring public.

I don’t suppose there’s any chance of making the driver of the pickup pay for the damages through garnishment of future wages, etc. Nah, we’ll just all pay more insurance premiums.

Sounds to me he may have been exceeding the speed limit of 60 km/hr. or under the influence. That sure is a lot of obstacles to run over before making any attempt to slow down.

ICBC will pay for that and I will pay ICBC.

What? Make somebody accept responsibility for their actions? That would certainly go over well with the socialists. :)

Yes ICBC does pay and then they sue the driver for costs.
He just screwed up the rest of his life .

And just so everyone knows, the speed limit on ospika is 50km/hr not 60. It only goes to 60 once u get to the hill. As for the city only having one recorded complaint on this corner, they should check again. I live in this area and know of 4 of my neighbours, including the previous owners of that house who’ve all complained that their houses or lawns have been affected by people not being able to navigate that corner.

Depending on the circumstances, ICBC may not be able to recover from the driver even if he or she can pay. The driver may be covered by ICBC and the accident may not be excluded from the coverage. (Suppose, for example, that the driver had a stroke or heart attack and so is not responsible. I believe that ICBC would be on the hook in that case.)

“He had just gone to the bathroom when the crash occurred”

He likely went again after the crash also…

The article states: “Director of Operations for the City Of Prince George, Bill Gaal says the city has only ever received one complaint about that particular curve and that complaint did not come from the motoring public.”

This is the kind of spun BS that City Admin puts out there, in my opinion. It obstructs the “conversation” in order to protect their own skin as well as that of the City.

If those other complaints did not get to them, then there is something wrong with the process. Any communication with the City should not get lost.

In this case, it even implies that the complaints from residents affected by the adjacency to that curve are of less value than the motoring public, even though the residents are likely members of the motoring public as well.

I think the City needs to be held accountable for the nature of that statement, both from the point of view implied and the inability to record complaints and keep them in a centralized, searchable database.

Simply put, poor management practices. Something a financial auditor would not deal with. This is strict quality control compliance.

Last year a dump truck didn’t make that exact spot!!

Lol the make shift fence is for what? That property hasn’t had a fence for a few years now so why throw up a make shift one? No complaints from the home owner/s? Just bring up the police reports from the last 10 years. The poor guy gave up rebuilding his fence. Maybe they gave up calling the police every time the fence was knocked down because nothing was ever done about it.

A four way stop would do wonders along that part of the road.

“A four way stop would do wonders along that part of the road.”

Or… people could just decide not to drive like morons.

How can the damage be $100,000? I’m no expert on construction costs, but that seems awfully high. It looks like they’ve got to replace part of a wall.

If your a moron JB you think what you do is okay and everyone else is stupid. So in order to stop driving like a moron first you have to recognize that you are driving like one. Buddy in the truck doesn’t have the mental capacity to realize he is a moron and that is why he crashed!

That corner has been a problem for many years, but of course speed of the vehicles entering the curve is always a factor. I assume many people have complained to the city about the curve and the number of incidents there.
Giving Mr. Gaal the benefit of the doubt, one would have to assume that most of the complaints did not get forwarded to the right persons.
metalman.

Noway: “Buddy in the truck doesn’t have the mental capacity to realize he is a moron and that is why he crashed! “

I didn’t think I would see someone defending the morons of the world, but there you go.
