Prince George, B.C. – The 2015 Canada Winter Games have announced the BC Lottery Corporation is on board as an official sponsor, and the Treasure Cove Hotel and Casino is the 2015 Games’ newest Community Partner.
Entertainment and culture are a major part of the two week event and as Presenting Sponsor of the 2015 Canada Winter Games’ BCLC Main Stage, BCLC will host the music and entertainment. “For nearly 30 years, our goal has been to provide outstanding entertainment and have meaningful impact in communities across B.C. In fact, last year alone, more than $1 billion in gambling proceeds helped fund important health care, education and community programs in the province” said Michael Graydon, BCLC President & CEO.
(at right, artist Milan Basic was at the announcement, he also created the mural on the Canada Games House exterior)
As a Community Partner, Treasure Cove Hotel & Casino will sponsor a comprehensive entertainment component of the 2015 Games’ Festival program. ”Like everyone in the community, we look forward to this incredible event and for our chance to provide exceptional entertainment experiences for everyone to enjoy” said Treasure Cove Hotel and Casino spokesman, Matt Major.
The 2015 Canada Winter Games’ Festival will take place in the downtown core of Prince George, and the performances on the BCLC Main Stage will be the focal point for the Games Village. There will be nightly music and entertainment for spectators of all ages.
The celebrations were demonstrated today with a live band, and a bar-b-q that served up free hot dogs to the hundreds in attendance.

Casinos and gambling are evil… blah blah…
There is a certain irony in the BCLC sponsorship … when the BCLC was first created in the 80s, the declared purpose at the time was that the “total take” from the lotteries, etc. was to underwrite the arts, youth sports and community events … wasn’t long until the government of the day saw the error in their ways and started to divert significant portions of the “take” to general revenues.
Now it is newsworthy when the BCLC actually lives up to its original mandate and funds this sort of event. Ouch!!!
Im sure they are hoping to recoup their expenditures at the slots, and gaming tables.
Lets give a big round of applause to those who will lose their shirts to support the entertainment at the games.
Wasn’t Lotto 649 first created to help pay for the 1976 Montreal Olympics?
“anotherside” is right . . .
Great news. Can’t wait for 2015 – it’s going to be a fantastic time for our city.
Let us face it, whether it is money from gambling, from car dealers, from Telus, from TD Bank, from McDonalds, etc. etc. it all comes from the people who use the services and good provided by such corporations, whether public or private.
Then let us face the fact that if they were to dig into their net earnings rather than their gross earnings, none of them would survive.
I find it hard to understand that people in general do not understand that simple notion. Whether private or public, they are all generous with our money and they can be because they have a slush fund called “promotion” or some variation of that.
