Weather is One For the Record Books

Monday, October 21, 2013 @ 3:31 PM
Prince George, B.C.- No matter where you go in Prince George today, people are talking about the weather.
Yesterday the thermometer hit a high of 16.9 degrees. That is a new record high for October 20th, the previous warmest its been on that day was in 1952 when the temperature hit 15.6 degrees.

We will have to wait a few more hours before we know if today will also set a new record. The temperature was 15.5 degrees at 3 this afternoon. It would have to climb another 2.5 degrees to break the old mark of 17.9 degrees set on October 21st in 1999.

Environment Canada Meteorologist Greg Pearce says the lovely fall weather is expected to be with us for a few more days, “There is a strong upper ridge just off the B.C. Coast, and its keeping much of B.C. sunny.” That upper ridge was also to blame for the fog that lead to the cancellation of numerous flights, but Pearce says things look good for P.G. “In the Prince George area you have enough of a southerly wind to keep the air mass stirred up and its allowing that warm dry air that’s associated with the high pressure ridge to mix down on to the surface. So we expect this weather to continue for a few days. The ridge doesn’t show any signs of breaking down for the Prince George area until possibly on the weekend . We could be looking at some cooler temperatures perhaps on Friday and Saturday and a little more in the way of cloud cover coming in, but temperatures will still be near or above seasonal values even through the weekend.”

Pearce says at this point, there is no sign of precipitation for at least the next 5-7 days .

We’ve had a great summer, why not a great fall as well?

Welcome to global warming folks. Not so bad right now, hey? But just wait a decade or two.

http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/north/world-temperatures-go-off-the-chart-by-2047-study-says-1.2053488

The sky is falling! The sky is falling!

We better eat all those flatulent cows, and not breed anymore. That would be a good start.

Then we could **ration** gasoline, so that people would drive less.

In addition we could stop buying products from polluting Countries, and perhaps they would change their ways.

Less flying all over the world for no reason other than to take a holiday would also help.

A big one would be to reduce the **hot air** from our Politicians.

It’s not all that difficult to take action, just say no to Alberta Tar Sands oil being shipped to China, thats it.

I think the USA will end up rejecting the Keystone XL pipeline as well. Pipeline constriction will force the Tars Sands to abandon it’s planned expansion. We will be doing the world a huge favour.

*Warning: the following information is from a website called Scientific America, it contains nothing but facts and truths about global warming.*

“Hansen is not alone in caring. In addition to a groundswell of opposition to the 2,700-kilometer-long Keystone pipeline, 17 of his fellow climate scientists joined him in signing a letter urging Pres. Barack Obama to reject the project last week. Simply put, building the pipeline—and enabling more tar sands production—runs “counter to both national and planetary interests,” the researchers wrote. “The year of review that you asked for on the project made it clear exactly how pressing the climate issue really is.” Obama seemed to agree in his second inaugural address this week, noting “we will respond to the threat of climate change, knowing that the failure to do so would betray our children and future generations.”

Man, I really wish we had a leader like Obama, instead we have oil “sock puppet” Harper :-(

If what you say is true about burning fossil fuels being the root cause of yesterday’s record temperature of 16.9 then how do you explain the 1952 temperature of 15.6. JohnnyBelt had it right!!! I have read your shouts of doom and gloom before when I was kid. They remind me of the story of Chicken Little!!!!! The sky is falling, the sky is falling!!
Just enjoy the warm weather while we have it as the bone chilling cold winds of winter are just around the corner

Scientists estimate that the earth is 4 – 5 billion years old. Are we to believe that today broke a record that stood for 4+ billion years?

The climate was changing long before 1952 and certainly long before the first internal combustion engine sputtered to life.

Holy $hit you people, palopu, whatever. How the hell do you take a NICE story about the beautiful weather we’ve had and turn it in to something where we end up under your black cloud of doom and gloom. BREAKING NEWS. Black clouds of doom and gloom found to be caused by GLOBAL WARMING. Pictures at 11:00

Viking: “Holy $hit you people, palopu, whatever. How the hell do you take a NICE story about the beautiful weather we’ve had and turn it in to something where we end up under your black cloud of doom and gloom.”

That was all People#1’s doing. Let’s give credit where it’s due.

Viking, I found the pictures at 11:00, here is one of them. Would this be you, or JB? :-)

October 21, 2004…12cm of snow on the ground. Argue away folk’s…….

Let’s all keep enjoying this wonderful Fall weather while People#1 keeps on complaining, whining and bitching seemingly about anything and everything! Let’s also remember today’s whine when it’s freezing cold and we are up to our butts in snow!

For crying out loud, People#1, go see your doctor for an antidepressant prescription!

In the spirit of happiness and positive thoughts, have a nice day!

More about that record heat wave dog!

” Man, I really wish we had a leader like Obama, instead we have oil “sock puppet” Harper :-(“

Bahahahaha….hahahahaha…Obama a leader?…hahahahaha…hahahahaha…

That is rich people#1 singing the praises of Obama, if Obama was in Canada he would fall in the political spectrum on the right side of the Liberal party and might even be considered a small c Conservative.
Maybe he/she is beginning to see the light as Nova Scotia turfed the ndp after 1 term leaving Manitoba with the only ndp provincial governing party. On the federal front they are poised to go back to the traditional position of alsorans as any chance to go further is dead and buried beside Jack Layton.

Aww.. every day I read your bellyaching comments about the lack of snow removal, or why this hotel shouldn’t be built here or there, or all that money being spent on the RCMP building, or the oh so expensive upgrade to the civic centre, or city hall can’t do anything right, it goes on and on and on…

While you negative Nancy’s sweat the small stuff, I choose to concentrate on the big issues! It amuses me to watch you standing around complaining about how terrible the deck chairs are arranged in this cruise ship called the Titanic.

Carry on complaining about the “small” stuff sheeple, I will continue to look ahead yelling iceberg, iceberg ahead, change course, change direction.

EVERY record high temperature that falls is a warning sign (a message) that global warming is here and it is just beginning to make it’s presence felt.

If you don’t like the message and want to ignore the truth, then simply skip over my posted comments… in other words DON”T READ them, I would rather have that then have you whine, bellyache and complain about them!

This isn’t global warming, it’s called weather. This is why so many don’t take global warming seriously. All the eco nuts that run around screaming global warming every time we have a warm day. people#1, what exactly do you like about Obama? You think he would shut down an oil sand project in his country? Not a chance.

Well if we are sheeple people#1 you’re a lettucehead. You should know climate change is occurring throughout the entire solar system. Guess the mining and extractions ought to stop on Mars too huh? The major iceberg in front of us posing a risk to our society are politicians running amok with our tax dollars and our diminishing participation in democracy. Swapping one band wagon for another doesn’t make one enlightened. It makes one a gullible sheeple that believes its something else. If it bleats it’s a sheep. Iceberg ahead people#1? It’s in your face.

People #1.

1. The Keystone Pipeline will be approved.

2. There will be an oil pipeline built to the West Coast. Pro) Rupert, Kitimat, or a Vancouver upgrade.

3. Global warming will not kill anyone who is alive to-day as we will be dead before (if) it gets here.

4. Harper is a much better leader than Obama, and will be recognized at such in due course. His competition as a Prime Minister are Joe Clark (who?). John Turner (big hands). Jean Chretian (there’s a burglar in my house). Pierre Trudeau (Keep the Government out of my bedroom). Lester Pearson (who’s afraid of Lyden Johnson?. Oh Yeah, and that other guy.

Have a nice sunny day.
5. You can make nice comments about the weather if you choose to, however everyone in town is able to see and feel the sun, so its not necessary to make weather the discussion of the day.

Increase our taxes and then reduce services, yup sounds like a recipe for re-election… NOT!”

==============================================

So people#1 are you a white sheeple or a black sheeple?

Hey findme.. you and everyone else must be getting tired of hearing us “screaming about global warming every time time we have a warm day.”

Not every warm day, only RECORD BREAKING warm days, and the reason why you, and some of these other deniers are getting sick and tired of our screaming is because these record high temperatures are happening so often!!!

Why can’t we have record cold temperatures in the winter to balance things out? Can anyone tell me when was the last time we had a record breaking low temperature in winter?

Why do all these hundreds (100s) of record breaking temperatures always have to be HIGH temperatures?

Oh well carry on sheeple, there is always a diaper that needs changing, a dinner to be made, cloths to wash, errands to run, etc. Just once in a while… stop and think about what kind of world we will be leaving to our children, and our children’s children.

Hey ewitt do these bellyaching words look familiar?

“How many of the 59.5% drive the type of vehicle with the permanent turn signal on and drive looking through the spokes of the steering wheel?”

Yeah, talk about the kettle calling the pot black!

Palopu, I see your man was in the news yesterday saying his trade deal is still better than the EU deal Harper is working on. I still can’t say his name …Mul…Mul….nope, I still can’t say it.

Wow..that’s all you have as a rebuttal? Check out the recent ice core samples and that research that supports climate change is CYCLICAL. I won’t change your diaper but I will call out stink when I smell it.

Hey palopu;

I have to agree with the President of Portugal and the President of the United States when they describe Harper as a “nobody” and a “lump”. No offence, I just tend to hold head of state opinions higher than most.

Umm… would you be referring to CO2 levels measured in trapped air bubble in those ice cores commoner? If so, there is recent evidence that the air bubbles trapped in the ice are not the same age as the ice that surrounds it.

They now realize the ice bubble samples can be thousands of years older than the ice surrounding it, making past fluctuations and changes in CO2 levels less volatile. Knowing this and matching the air bubbles to the correct age of ice below it (air always rises) makes the results far less volatile. In other words historic climate changed more slowly than originally thought.

http://www.scientificamerican.com/article.cfm?id=ice-core-data-help-solve

No. I’m talking about the joint Canadian-Danish-Russian academic studies that have been ongoing since 2006 coupled with NASA and ESA data. Scientific American is a science rag so I do hope you read more than that.

Enjoy the warm weather and use some reasoning.
(Yes, the sky is “falling” – it is called the Orionids.

I cannot believe everyone continues to feed the troll…

How could we possibly have record temperatures when we have a carbon tax?

People#idiot..you are really wearing thin with your crap. Who pays you? come clean. Nobody could continually spew nutbar nonsense at the rate you do without some eco nazi foundation footing the bill. You are clearly unemployable in the real world.

I was not the one belittling other posters by calling them sheeple and suggesting their concerns on local issues are trite and irrelevant.
Maybe I missed something perhaps you can enlighten me on how the decision by Prince George city council it let 3/4 of an inch more snow before sending out the plows fits on the global scheme of things seeing how you choose to focus “the big issues!”

As for my earlier post I will guide you through, it was a remark meant to suggest that the average age of those who vote on the 250News polls might be well above 60 and people in their later years have been known to drive around town with a signal light on. As they age these older people tend to buy the biggest cars they can find even as their own stature shrinks so that at times all you can see is the blue rinse hair above the steering wheel.

Yeah, who would read a “science” magazine to find information on climate “science”? That’s crazy hey?

Wow, I actually got a sunburn today, first time I have ever got a sunburn in October… hmm…oh well.

I’m guessing that’s not the first time you’ve been burnt people.

Hey dow7500 is here. Last time we tango-ed was on the privatization of water and the massive amounts required for Natural Gas fracking. A very robust topic, that seems to have overwhelmed you.

I can’t help it if you can’t keep up, but just because you can’t is no reason to hate me! Keep trying dow7500, study up and learn more about the current events that often repeatedly come up in the news, and you will eventually get there!

All you have to do is be willing to learn and share that knowledge with others, but keep trying dow7500 we need a more informed and free thinking people, not sheeple!

So, as a sheeple desperate to gain enlightenment , I humbly ask, who pays your bills?

where can I get a sheeple t-shirt??

What does it matter to you who pays my bills dow7500?

Maybe everything I have, the house I live in, the car I drive, the boat I enjoy, are bought and paid for? Maybe the very first mortgage statement I got for my house listed 98% of that mortgage payment going to interest with 2% going to principle.

Maybe I got mad about how much the banks were screwing me over, and decided to make rapid weekly payments and maxing out lump sum deposits on my mortgage debt?

Maybe I paid off my house in just 11 years just to say “up yours” to the bank?

But then again… maybe I am just some kid in some basement getting ready for my political science exam (your words dow).

It’s on the rack right next to the “LIEBERALS ” t-shirts.

@ bc2412

You’re welcome :-)

People#1, lets say for the sake of argument you did get a sunburn today. I don’t think you did, but that’s neither here nor there. Sunburns are caused by ultraviolet rays from the sun, not by a warm day. Global warming is caused by heat being trapped in the atmosphere by greenhouse gasses. So there you go.

People#1, you really do have way too much free time on your hands! You really do need to get laid! Man, do I feel sorry for your poor spouse!

@ findme; point taken, but it was so “warm” out I took off my coat and got a sunburn. I blame global warming, because on a day like October 21st, I would have had my jacket on.

@Hart Guy; mining for information are we? What make you think I am married? Maybe I am just a kid in my parent’s basement, studying for my political science exam? By the way, what does “getting laid” mean?

Climate change is here. And ramping up. Get ready for the new reality

Why it matters is that it would shed light on your overt bias. Your posts reek of spam that doesn’t originate from one person. You may not like my opinions, but they are mine. You, on the other hand, puke out talking points resembling a sierra club convention.

By the way, good job paying off your mortgage. But if 98% was for interest, you either can’t read a statement, or more likely, have spewed more falsehoods. You should be thanking the bank for giving you the opportunity to buy a home.

Bring it on dude. Weather its fracking, the EU trade deal, pipelines, I can handle an arrogant lightweight like you.

Was Global Warming an issue in 1952? Or 1999? Those were the last times the temperature was what it was today.

Why are allowing ourselves to get so worked up about things? It’s another uncommonly nice day in Prince George that compares to other nice days during the past 61 years.

I say be thankful, enjoy it and hope for more.

“Why it matters is that it would shed light on your overt bias. Your posts reek of spam that doesn’t originate from one person.”

Why thank you dow7500, I was aiming for that Conservative Party of Canada approach, I learned from the best!

“Bring it on dude. Weather its fracking, the EU trade deal, pipelines, I can handle an arrogant lightweight like you.”

What makes you think I’m a dude? But that’s the fighting spirit dow7500, I would be even more impressed if you knew the difference between “whether” and “weather”. ;-)

Dude is a figure of speech, you could very well be a hermaphrodite. I really don’t care. But your arguments are parroted from someone’s talking points, regardless. Nobody could that brainwashed on their own. Even a mental giant like you.

Some of those scammers yelling CAGW where predicting ova age in the early seventies. One year ago the south pole hit a record low. Areas of south America recently had record lows. Eastern Europe Siberia Mongolia have has record cold for the last few Years. England has had record lows and basically no summer in most areas and suffering power poverty because of the high cost of so called green energy which is a costly mistake.

There has been no measurable increase in global temperatures for 17 years. That was not predicted by the computer models. CAGW only exists in models and not real world observations.

For the last 2000 thousand years global temperatures have been trending down.

people#1

I am glad to see that you are keeping a laser sharp focus on “the big issues!”

The resolution of the whether/weather dilemma is bound to be the first item discussed during the morning briefing for all the world’s leaders. Get a good night’s sleep and if you feel up to it you could tackle twototoo , Iran’s attempts to get the bomb or the ever perplexing theretheirthey’re tomorrow.

Ever heard of “Indian summers” People#1!

Obama is not a man of the people either. Man of wall street is more like it. Best president Wall Street crime syndicate ever had.

Supposed to be ice age, not ova age. The earth has been in a continuous ice age for about 2 million years with brief interglacials between periods of much longer glaciations.

For anyone interested in the science, as in climate science, I would like to introduce to you; one of the most valuable sources of information on climate change you can find on the Internet.

The following is an excerpt of highlights from the USA’s National Climatic Data Centre. More specifically, these are highlights from the 2012 Bulletin of the American Meteorological Society (BAMS).

Highlights:

-The global surface temperature ranked among the top 10 warmest years on record.

-Since 1976, every year has been warmer than the long-term average.

-In 2012, the biggest differences from average temperature (mostly warm anomalies) were seen across the Northern Hemisphere higher latitudes: the United States, Canada, southern Europe, western Russia, and the Russian Far East.

-Including the 2012 temperature, Earth is warming at a rate of 0.06°C (0.11°F) per decade since 1880 and a more rapid 0.16°C (0.28°F) per decade since 1970.

http://www.climate.gov/news-features/understanding-climate/2012-state-climate-earths-surface-temperature

You need to believe in the “science” people, book mark the Climate.gov as BAMS release it’s climate reports every year. Please note that climate scientists; Rebecca Lindsey and Susan Osborne are the authors of this report and put their names on it. This is science people, not “enviro kook” stuff!!!

So people#1what can we really do about it? Turn down the sun? Stop volcanos from erupting and leaves from decomposing? Humans aren’t going to change their ways and neither is Mother Nature. So enjoy the heat!

Here is what we can do about it: stop voting for a BIG OIL run Conservative Government!!! I don’t care which other party you vote for, Liberals, Green, NDP, if you want to stop climate change, stop voting for the Conservative Party of Canada!!!

Here, this should help explain the reason why; just read both headlines, you can read the rest of the news articles later if you want. 10 seconds is all this will take I promise:

http://www.huffingtonpost.ca/2012/08/15/climate-change-survey-canada-believers_n_1777860.html

http://o.canada.com/technology/environment/stephen-harpers-environment-minister-casts-doubt-on-climate-change/

So 98% of Canadians believe that the planet is warming, but our Environment Minister doesn’t? That’s BIG OIL talking!!!

It’s easy everyone. Just stop using oil and oil based products!

Yeah, vote NDP. And we all can be sitting on our butts, wondering how to feed yourself. Voting for Trudeau will get you the same results out west.

What we need is a couple of good volcanoes to pop. so it will create a cloud dust. Keep the sun out and cool off the planet. Than of course we would then need to burn more carbon fuel to keep our selves from freezing.

We are not killing the planet. We are just killing ourselves. No problem.

Maybe our trees will grow back http://news.nationalgeographic.com/news/2010/12/101217-mummified-forest-canada-science-environment/

findme wrote: “This isn’t global warming, it’s called weather. This is why so many don’t take global warming seriously. All the eco nuts that run around screaming global warming every time we have a warm day”

Agree 100%

Anyone who knows anything about the theory and how it would affect this part of the world specifically would know that the long term projections are warmer winters and colder summers with more precipitation than previously.

We have seen the mountain pine beetle infestation which used to be held in check for many decades with longer periods of winter temperatures in the -40 range.

I came in 1973 and I can remember having -40 here over the winters I enjoyed here with cold, clear, windless days. I do not think we have had any of those in at least the last 20 years.

At the same time, we used to have warmer summer with more sunshine and less rain. I think that has also changed. This year was more of a normal summer, but it took a long time to get here after March/April and the temperatures were never really that hot.

Since we do not have air conditioning in the house, I used to use exterior shades on some of the large windows we have facing south and west. I have not had to use those for over 20 years to keep the house bellow 25C during most of the days. There were a few over that, but not worth while to get the shades out and put them up.

So, in my experience, the climate has changed in PG as predicted since 1973.

Using the link to the Italian site which posted annual weather data for Prince George, I have joined 10 year records to show an average of the 10 years.

There is a whole section missing in the data for the 1960s to the 1970s. The 1950s also do not have any precipitation data. They are available on other sites, but I am not taking the time to fill the gaps.

So here it is.

1957 to 1966
Temps: Av.=3.93; max=10.04; min=-1.48; precip=n/a; rain days= 141 ; snow days=106 (247)

1980s
Temps: Av.=4.23; max=10.58; min=-2.27; precip=650; rain days=155 ; snow days=101 (256)

1990s
Temps: Av.=4.59; max=10.89; min=-1.65; precip=565; rain days=149 ; snow days=99 (248)

2000s
Temps: Av.=4.33; max=10.6; min=-1.4; precip=541; rain days=159 ; snow days=105 (264)
The numbers in brackets are total number of days with precipitation.

Comparing first decade in 2000 to decade approximately 50 years ago

1.increase in annual average temperature = 10.2%
2.increase in annual maximum temperature = 5.6%
3.decrease in annual minimum temperature = 5.4%
4.Change in rain days = +12.8%
5.Change in snow days = -1%
6.Change in total precipitation days = +6.9%

So, the earlier info I posted about what is supposed to happen in areas such as Prince George in the case of global warming is a more temperate climate, with less pronounced spikes in low and high temperatures plus more precipitation (number of days with precipitation and/or total precipitation)

My reading of the data show that we are close to the predicted target over the last 50 years.

BTW, I think it would be great if we would get that sort of analysis from a meteorologist. They would be able to provide the missing data and presumably improve on the accuracy of my analysis.

Sometime one drops the low and high numbers in such an analysis which I believe might make the change over time more pronounced.
