Tuesday, November 5, 2013 @ 2:28 PM
Prince George, B.C.- It is now official. The new RCMP building on Victoria Street will be officially “unveiled” on Saturday November 16th.
An afternoon ceremony for invited guests will include speeches, flag raising and ribbon cutting, but the new facility will not be operational for another month.
RCMP Commissioner Bob Paulson is expected to attend.
The November 16th event coincides with the RCMP Regimental Ball that will be held that same evening.

Interesting that this **Opening** is for **invited** guests.
I guess Joe and Jane taxpayer can stand across the street and enjoy the festivities from afar.
You would think at the very least they would have one **token** average homeowner/taxpayer present to show that the taxpayers are the one’s who will pay for this behemoth.

Yeah, what the heck is that all about? We foot the bill but we’re not good enough to be invited?
Maybe there will be a public update regarding Nicole Hoar.

No….Your not! But your more than welcome to call 911 when your house is getting robbed. What makes you think you have the right to access a RCMP security Clearance building cuz you pay city taxes LOL? wake up!
Knowledge88. Don’t be stupid. This is the Prince George jail. We have cells in this building for prisoners,. We will have 50 or more city staff working in the building, plus most of the **invited** guests wouldn’t have any kind of security clearance, nor would the press.
Where do you get these ideas from???
We could all call 911 before this building was built, so what’s your point??

Maybe we should have built another school.
I’m sure there will be public tours in a little while to show this behemoth off and I doubt very much there will be a need for any security clearance, LMAO!
Thank you Grizzly1 for bestowing a little common sense on this comment board
Hey folks! MacLeans says we are a terrible city for crime. Green says we are not. Let the actions of the RCMP and Corrections prove who is right. The three most beautiful and state of the art buildings in Prince George are the prison on Hwy 16 and the RCMP North Division bldg and he new Victoria street building! Looks like we devote our money and attention mostly to our crime fighting! I think we are one of the most dangerous cities in Canada. Right up there with Winnipeg!
No Duchess park high school is no comparison on a architectural level.

I hear a small ensemble of a symphony orchestra will be testing the building for acoustic qualities prior to the official opening and that the ensemble will be in attendance to perform for the invited guests.
The ensemble will be performing Richard Wagner’s Ride of the Valkyries.

Really! Public tours of an operational RCMP building LOL yeah, those happen all the time, the stupid is strong in some! Your the same kinda guys that when stopped by the RCMP say “I pay your salary!” right? Oh and the “50 or more city staff” ALL HAVE TO HAVE RCMP ENHANCED SECURITY CLEARANCE to work IN That building….so again, wake up!
Knowledge88, they had public tours of the old RCMP building when it was first open and it operational. The RCMP auxiliary did the tours and they showed a complete intake for lockup. Before they moved in would be be a good time to have the public tours.
I forgot to say, it is a public building therefore it is open to the public. But unless you are on a tour or arrested there will be areas that you can’t access. I do hope the new building will be open to the public a lot more than the “old fortress”.
They also had a tour of the old building for Councillors and City staff to see why they needed to build a new building.
Knowledge88 is a little off on this one.
I suppose that all the contractors, painters, etc; who actually built the building had enhanced security clearance also.
“An afternoon ceremony for invited guests will include speeches, flag raising and ribbon cutting, but the new facility will NOT BE OPERATIONAL for another month.”
So Knowledge88 ….. learn to read yet?
Who cares?? 40 million….hehehe! lets be rid of the Scurge in red and our own police force!!

Yeah, were they WORKING in the building like the 50 or so city staff? And gus I read just fine, even self induced crap like a Youtube link to Wagner?? Your Oh so witty….and your STILL not invited lol
Oh, get of your high horses. None of you would go even if you were invited.
What is the problem, nothing else to bitch about today?
EXACTLY!!!

I kinda knew that when I started to post my thoughts about the building and the people who gave us that overly expensive building.
Being served fruit punch and making idle conversation is not a pleasurable experience.

Actually I was going to post that the Ride of the Valkyries would go well with search lights positioned at the base of each gallows column and pointe4d straight up into the sky ….. real effective with a bit of fog moving in ….
But, I thought better of it …. would be far too symbolic of an authoritarian building …. ;-)
I’m not one for pomp and circumstance ceremonial crap anyhow, but I’ll attend the publicly announced unveiling and flag raising. Invitations get lost in the mail all the time especially with our less than stellar federal postal service of late.
It’s still a community event and I think we should all be there – as citizen journalists of course ;)
So, ‘the Ediface’ will be officially opened; but not operational for another month! We as John & Jane public, still just get to pay for it!
So, if we get a chance-maybe we should go see what our money is buying!
The opening needs some fire works. Everybody bring flares and firecrackers and we’ll throw our own party, Mardi-Gras style. (oh, bring those beads also).
Not much room for public parking.
They really should have spent the extra 15 million dollars and built the extra three floors. We are going to be at this again in 30 years.
Considering that this building was paid for by the taxpayers of Prince George without any Federal or Provincial money, it will be interesting to see if the Feds and Prov show up for the Photo Op,.
They may not want to be associated with this venture.
A record 833,000 Canadians are relying on food banks to keep them alive.
Maybe the last perp arrested before the grand opening can be there for the ribbon cutting. Don’t let him near the scissors.
