Airport Logistic Plans Rosier with Boundary Road Opening
Prince George, B.C. –There have been some more advances, which should bring the Prince George Airport closer to becoming a tech stop and a key player in logistics development.
Airport Authority CEO John Gibson, says the opening of Boundary Road this week, is “A significant milepost.” The road officially opening yesterday, offering access to property that is ready for development, and linking highways 16 and 97.
He says the road opening, combined with the land clearing initiatives that are underway, signals “that Prince George is open for logistics development.”
Gibson says that in conjunction with the road’s completion, the airport’s fuel depot is receiving hydro power this week and the fuel pumping system and refuelling vehicle are in full working order, just waiting for certification. He says he fully expects the fuel depot will be open for business in December.
Gibson says the dream of logistics operations at the Prince George Airport is achievable, especially now that Boundary Road is open and the development of a logistics park is more attractive to potential investors. “It’s up to the rest of us to step up to the plate and draw business to Prince George.”

So how long has it been when the fuel depot has been announced and the facility is actually functioning? I thought the facility was available to use.
Why has it taken this long? Was it dependent on Boundary Rd. opening? I do not recall that caveat being mentioned, if that is the case.
Boundary Rd. should have been built when it was known that the runway was a go ahead.
I think it is fair to say people had an expectation, but those in charge must have known that all these pieces had to come together before the runway was really ready for business.
What else is holding it up now? When will the first properties actually be laid out with local access roads and services?
Will anyone, such as Rempel himself be building a speculative, generic building or two as rental units, industrial condo spaces or outright purchase? Some other industrial parks do that.
Or, maybe someone is ready to make the move right now. If so, how soon can that business purchase a property and start construction?
Enquiring minds would love to know.
Where is the web page site which one can show the world, or those in Hixon, that we are open for logistic park business?
gus I know you must have seen this link.

you are the link master.
obviously I am not a link master. :)
Maybe Costco should have been approached first about building a fuel depot at the airport. Coulda worked.
But you can read doogood , link instructions are just below the “post comment” button. ;)
I thinking industry will wait and see what the new storm water tax is going to cost them before they build shop within the city limits!
What does the road have to do with anything? Like there wasn’t a road to the park there already.
Why fill the fuel tanks if no one is going to use the fuel. Big planes need to land first so there is a need for the fuel not fill up the tanks and hope someone comes.
Why drive all the way down to the fuel tanks to fill up? I doubt the airlines are going to use it as the planes are refuelled when the plane is being loaded and unloaded at the terminal building . Fill the fuel trucks up there you say? What a waste of truck fuel running back are forth.
Dream on people dream on.
Its kind of funny how all the naysayers shout at every “milepost” along the way, yet we keep passing them. I recall saying (a couple years back) that one day we would have a major carrier (DHL, FEDEX etc) here… And I still stick by that.
*shrug*
NoWay is right, nothing is going to happen until the big cargo planes start landing, and that’s not going to happen anytime soon!
Interceptor: “Its kind of funny how all the naysayers shout at every “milepost” along the way, yet we keep passing them. “
What mileposts have we passed? Are we generating any revenue for the $60 million spent?
Calgary looked into what we are doing currently and scrapped the idea.
Anchorage is the ‘go to’ place and unless something changes drastically, that will continue.
What mileposts? The runway, boundary road, the fuel station… All have which have been touted at one time as projects that would “never happen”. I agree there has been no revenue but I still say a lot of people will be suprised by what ends up at our airport.
They are saying now hiway 97 can link up to hiway 16. Its actually shorter to go on the old caribou fron hiway 97 to hiway 16. Has been there all along. Just saying.
interceptor. Here is a excerpt from the Citizen newspaper Dec. 13/05. This is before the runway was extended.
**Karen Cooper** a spokesperson for FedEx’s Canadian operations, said the company has no interest in setting up a centre in Prince George even if the runway was extended.
From where we are now for logistics and capacity, FedEx goes via Anchorage Alaska, and there is no intention of switching. It seems a bit of a stretch for us.
In fact said Cooper FedEx has purchased a fleet of Airbus 380-800F cargo jets that don’t need a stop over en route across the Pacific.
So the Airport was aware that there was little interest from the big freight forwarders even before they started to build the runway.
The Prince George Airport Master Plan projected the following number of Tech Stops beginning in 2009.
2009-10-11 Annual One-Way Stops 312.
2012-13-14 Annual One-Way Stops 624
2015-16 Annual One -Way Stops 936
Actual to date. ZERO.
Bring on the excuses.
HEY,
dead horse, enough already. Let the market beat it to death. You guys are getting boring! Pick another crystal ball to foresee the future.
I mean they won’t be able to land at all if we didn’t have the long runway. So build it and they will come? Maybe…… One day….. Maybe! But doesn’t Kelowna have the same plan? So maybe they will get the traffic….. One day…. Maybe!
Took a drive around the loop today! Seen a few trucks using the route already! Don’t know if it is a short cut to Costco/Wallmart area for folks from Blackburn and Tabor lake area but it should be a quicker route. Less lights and bypass downtown pg all together! At least the road will get used and it was freshly plowed too!

I don’t recall ever hearing that the projects wouldn’t happen. I have heard lots of promises in terms of economic activity.
If you believed the talking heads before the runway was built, there were cargo planes in the sky circling looking for a place to land.
‘Build it and they will come’ works great in the movies, but it is not always so in real life.
