BC NDP Convention Underway
Vancouver, BC – More than 800 members of the BC New Democratic Party have gathered for the party's annual convention in Vancouver…
Among them, local delegates Lorna Waghorn-Kidd and Sherry Ogasawara, who attempted to unseat veteran Liberal MLA, Shirley Bond, in the Prince George-Valemount riding in last spring's election. (photo at right shows Waghorn-Kidd and Ogasawara at last night's convention kick-off, courtesy BC NDP)
The gathering is the first opportunity for rank-and-file members to discuss the devastating debacle that was the May election. Both Party President, Moe Sihota, and Leader Adrian Dix announced their resignations at the end of the summer, but Dix plans to stay on until 2014. A new executive will be voted in this weekend and a date for the leadership election is expected to be set.
Ogasawara is one of the speakers on the agenda at this weekend's convention. Dix is expected to speak to delegates at 10:30am this morning and federal NDP Leader Tom Mulcair will address those gathered at the Renaissance Vancouver Harbourside at 1:30pm.
Comments
Methinks Tom Mulcair is in for a rude awakening next election.
As long as the ndp selects leaders with the personality of a damp dish rag like Skelly James and Dix they will be permanent residents of the opposition benches.
Dix was on the news tonight and said the two reasons the ndp lost was some drivel about RESP’s and the Kinder Morgan fiasco. No mention of how he spent the full 28 day campaign saying or doing little, opening his mouth only long enough to stick his foot in. He could not have won a grade school election with a campaign that bad.
Meanwhile Christy Clark appeared at every event looking, sounding and acting like a premier of a province.
I agree JohnnyBelt. Mulcair and the Quebec NDP are in for a big surprise.
