Red Nose Ready for Big Weekend
Prince George, B.C.- It is the last weekend before Christmas, and Operation Red Nose wants to make sure you are able to spend the holidays safe and sound with family or friends.
There will be 24 volunteer road teams out from 9 pm to 3 am, offering safe rides home. Tomorrow night, there will be 28 teams on the road.
"Like last year, we expect to be busy this weekend right before Christmas and we want to remind party-goers that we'll be available to provide safe rides home," said Andrea Johnson, Operation Red Nose spokesperson. "They can call 250-962-RIDE (7433) and we'll get them and their vehicle home."
Operation Red Nose is a free, designated driving service available during the holiday season organized by the Rotary Club of Prince George Nechako in partnership with the RCMP and ICBC.
Operation Red Nose won't be in service Dec. 27 and 28 to give volunteers a much-needed break and enjoy the Christmas season prior to the busiest night for the service, which is New Year's Eve.
"We still need volunteers for New Year's Eve and anyone who wants to help us out must submit their application, which includes a Criminal Record Check, by Dec. 24," said Johnson. "Volunteers can apply online at www.ornpg.ca, fill out the application and drop it off at the Community Policing Office."
So far in 2013, Operation Red Nose has provided 563 safe rides home after six nights of service.
