Prince George, BC – Preparing for the 2015 Canada Winter Games is entering a new phase, with a season of 'test events'about to get underway…

Beginning in early January, the Games' Volunteer Sports Committee will kick it into high gear with the first of 12 such events planned – the 2014 Scotties Women's BC Curling Championships at the Prince George Golf and Curling Club between January 6th and 12th.  Other 'tests' include: the BC Snowboard Provincial Cross and Slopestyle Championships January 30 to February 2 at Tabor Mountain, the Western Canadian Biathlon Championship at the Otway Nordic Ski Centre, also at the end of January, the BC Provincial Ringette Championships at the Coliseum March 7 to 9, and the 2014 North Central Junior Adult Masters Badminton Tournament at the end of March at the Charles Jago Northern Sport Centre.

2015 Winter Games Director of Communication, Alison Gourley-Cramer, says while some of the volunteer committees needed for the games are just getting rolling, in the sports areas, most have been working for the past six to eight months to get ready for this upcoming season of test events.

Gourley-Cramer says the committees for each sport have been gathering volunteers and equipment in preparation for the events and will hone their plans, based on what they learn as hosts.

"Then for games' time, we'll have a really great group of volunteers who are prepared and ready," she says.  "We're really fortunate in Prince George that a lot of the sports we've been working with already have very well established groups of people – the biathlon community, the alpine ski community – but we're still recruiting sport volunteers."

Gourley-Cramer is encouraging anyone interested in volunteering to check out the games' website.

Twelve events??!! And that’s just this year??!! I’d guess that would bring a large amount of people to town for each, who I would guess most of them stay in hotels, eat at restaurants, buy gas, spend money at stores, etc…
By golly, I’d almost say that the City is enjoying some serious economic benefits prior to the Canada Winter Games contrary to what the enlightened oracles who post on this site say.

realitycheck. Serious economic benefits???

Hmmmmmmm.

The city is enjoying? Certain business’s may be enjoying it. That’s what all these games are about though, financial benefit of the few.

Right on Dragon… Where’s my cheque?

many sunsets to go before we ever come close to a profit on this one if ever

realitycheck I dropped off a check to the city last May that included 15k for the ‘games’ just for one year of property taxes. I seriously doubt that amount – never mind triple that amount will be recovered by the businesses involved in any way during the games. My personal contribution is also in doubt, will I see any benefits?
