Canfor’s Polar Sawmill Cancels Shift After Snowload Concerns

Sunday, January 12, 2014 @ 3:47 PM

Prince George, BC –  Employees at Canfor's Polar Sawmill are being told not to report to work for the evening shift at the Bear Lake facility…

Supervisors apparently became concerned with structural integrity at the mill, after last night's snowfall.

Both the day and night shift have been cancelled tomorrow, as well, to give mill officials a chance to fully assess the situation.

Warning sign for many buildings in PG – Get the roof shovel before something big happens !

What about the planer, any information.

30 plus years ago the Canfor mill in Houston had a roof collapse. They were worried about the snowload so they used snow blowers and started in the middle but the snowblowers couldn’t get the snow all the way to the roof edge due to it’s size and so they piled the snow up on and overloaded some of the beams.

SNOWDAY…..YAY…hope they got paid for it.

9429 …. I had not heard that before, but that goes into the books for me of why lay people should leave those types of issues to an engineer.

Should have removed it with a helicopter … :-)
