Prince George Received 5 Inches More Snow In 2013 Than 2012 In Oct Nov And Dec

Wednesday, January 15, 2014 @ 10:03 AM

Prince George- While the snow fall in Prince George , measured at the airport, was 90 centimeters in December of 2013 , that compares to 64 centimeters that we received in 2012. That equates in the old terms to 10.26 inches more of snow in 2013, then we received in 2012 in December.

In 2012, October started off with a snow fall of 25 centimetres, about 10 inches , that was followed by 18 centimetres in November , and 64 centimetres in December.

In 2013 October had no snow fall, November  recorded 30 centimetres and December 90 centimetres.  That means in 2013 we received 13 centimetres more snow in the three months mentioned than we did in 2012. That means we have had 5.1 inches more snow in October, November and December in 2013 than we did in 2012 .

The River Forecast Center measures "snow pack" that is the amount of snow that has accumulated in areas. The Upper Fraser Basin , in which Prince George falls includes the McGregor Mountains, up to Mackenzie, the Pine Pass ,to the Alberta border, and the foothills to the east of the city. The measurements are primarily taken to give an indication of what sort of spring runoff we can expect from the melt in the spring. That entire area, the River Forecast are saying, has received 151 per cent more snow fall than normal.

What about acumulation over a time period. I think that would be more important than a monthly amount.

Here is what our mayors campaign manager felt he needed to share to his friends on facebook..January 13
I find it very uncomfortable to call some one out. I prefer to turn the other cheek when it comes to confronting someone on something they did or said, but Brian Skakun, City of Prince George councillor for many years, your latest posting on Facebook page takes the bloody cake.

I appreciate that he continues to put his name in the hat for civic office, but enough is enough.

He has been charged and convicted and fined for breaching privacy laws in Prince George. I ignored his error in judgement. That was then, and you think we would have learned. But oh no, not Brian.
Now he is playing the innocent councillor, supposedly ignorant of what is going on with snow clearing in my city. He has been on council long enough that he should know. In any case, instead of doing some on the ground investigation and then following up with the authorities, he publishes photos and indicates by way of a diatribe(my take) that things are out of control. Basically, he pisses all over management, staff and the rest of my City councillors. Never mind that he is wrong in his “rant”, his style of getting to the root of a”problem” is backwards. My take is that he is not a team player and has inflamed a situation with unsubstantiated charges. Brian Skakun, your remarks are inflammatory and unfounded. Your grandstanding is not appreciated.
You are fired!

Need more info on Happy’s post.

I always like that term “team player” Lemmings are team players too. The voice of dissent is always needed, even if it’s wrong, because it causes the lemmings to reevaluate whether jumping off a cliff is a good idea at this time. Right now we have a 39 million dollar police station with ice covered sidewalks that if it were open, would be injuring police, criminals and the public alike. This city is like a sixteen year old who can afford a car, just not gas and insurance, but he buys it anyway.

Brian has done a GREAT thing for all of us in P.G…..he has said how WE ALL feel and he CARES about the health of people. He saw like everyone else did that the roads are VERY dangerous and he is TRYING to do something about it all. I give him A LOT of credit. Thank you again, Brian. You are a great man!!!!!

No more info on Happy’s post…he is ignorant.

Take a look around the bowl in town, accumulation is less than a foot in most areas right now. Hart and Upper College Heights are 30 inches or more.

I think Brian has every right to call the management to task. This town’s snow removal has been mismanaged for so long that now we think of it as normal! Every year we hear the same old rant about there not being enough money in the budget. How many times does someone have to make a mistake before they get it right? Now they don’t have enough operators for the equipment. Did they try to hire some? Maybe they need to train some. When you can’t hire equipment, maybe you need to go out and buy some more?

Good job Brian!!! As far as scary Shari goes, she can buy a one way ticket out of town.

I’m sure there are lots of sponsers in PG that would pay for that one way ticket

If Shari is crazy enough to run for reelection I’m sure the polls will laugh her outta Prince George

A pot hole would get more votes than Shari Green if she decides try for the mayor’s seat one more time.

Did he not have/has a criminal record also?

P Val, get your facts straight before posting

He should learn how to pay his taxes too!

Happyinmyworld

Did you actually read the posting word for word.

Why would an ex campaign manager that does not live in the city of Prince George but in Victoria say “my city” “my councillors”?

Read it again it almost sounds like someone else’s words,,,, A close friend or oops….. should that be a business acquaintance employee?

Give it a break mayor!

Who do you blame for all the snow we have recieved in the last month. Blame the City workers? Realy! NOT!!! Mother Nature takes all the blame.
The City employees are there to do their jobs and regardless of what the Chopstick lady on the 5th floor says in her email to JoannaG.

The Cupe Outside Worker President did not tell the employees to do slack jobs regardless of signing the new collective agreement. They do the best that they can with the equipment that the City provides for them to operate.

With limited mechanics in the shop and the amount of break downs of equipment….one should only ask why there is not more hired to replace the ones that retire. But NO they just leave it at the lowest possible amount of machanics. That’s the same for operators too. So who is suppose to bring up the slack the employees. |

Mean while the staff increases to push more papers around on their desks.

It’s unfortunately that the roads are like they are but the operators are working as much as they can. They are told when there will be overtime work to be had. It is up to each employee to accept the overtime. Some of them do while others can not due to other commitments in their home life. YES HOME LIFE111 That is something that everyone of the City residents have. Need to ask yourself what is more important in your life. Working 12-14 hours a day with only 6 hours a break and go back again for another 12 hours. That is just not safe….not safe for the employee, the equipment, the other drivers or people walking on city streets.

Everyone has their ignorant responses to how the city streets are but they don’t ask the ones doing the work. They just assume.

As far as I can remember, it was only Brian Skakun that went out for a drive with one of the sanders last year or the year before. Come on councilors and Scary Sherri and Beth, go for some drives with the operators…go see first hand at what they go through.

I say a BIG

My first post ever on 250. Lived in Prince for 48 of my 50 years. As for winters I’ve seen alot of different weather at least a couple the same as this one. Never have I seen the roads as bad as this. This goes for summer as well. We have a newer Court House, a new Cop shop and a refurbished jail. Everything else is crumbling around us. When the oil and gas projects come to realization we might see more tax dollars for the city but the average Joe here now will be swallowed by inflation. It isn’t going to get better before it gets worse.

THANK YOU TO ALL THE CITY OUTSIDE AND INSIDE WORKERS FOR ALL THEIR HARD WORK.

Don’t let those Hard A… push you around, they are all bullies. Yes you Scary…hope losing those 2 lbs was worth say to one of the ladies who lost her job, who also lost weight. Only due to losing her job. “You can look at it has something good came out of it” What kind of comment is that to say to a employee. Shame on you….did your advisor write that for you, like the one who said about the Naysayer.

No respect from this household.

You misunderstand Happyinmyworlds post – it is from the facebook page of the mayors ex-campaign manager in its entirety – none of the words in the post are from Happyinmyworld. It was in fact written by someone else but shared on his page for the rest of the community to see.

I sure hope that after Mayor Green is voted out of office Mick Jones will step forward and give us the real story. He is in charge of the streets and hopefully will be able to fill us in on what has really gone on this winter. I would imagine that nobody wants the streets cleaned more than him but I’m thinking that he has to answer to the higher powers. It’s probably in his best interest to keep his mouth shut until that time. I have lived in PG for 40 years and don’t recall streets being this bad. The ice I can understand with the freeze thaw but the ruts are something else. We haven’t had a snow fall in over a week and the bus route in front of my street has still not been plowed. Thank-you to the CUPE workers for doing the best job they can.

Brian Skakum is a JOKE!! a firm believer in ANY press is good press. That this man even continues to have a job in municipal politics is absurd.
