Search for 2015 Games Mascot Launched
2015 Canada Games' Todd Doherty details the search for the Games Mascot to students at Ecole Lac de Bois
Prince George, B.C.- School children from across Northern B.C. have been given a challenge, to come up with a mascot for the 2015 Canada Winter Games.
The mascot must be one of the animals that are already part of the Games “brand”, namely the bear, eagle, salmon, moose, fox or cougar. School kids have been invited to come up with a mascot, a name for the mascot, and a story about the mascot.
The challenge was launched at Ecole Lac des Bois in Prince George this morning.
There isn’t much time though, as all entries will have to be submitted by February 7th. From there, all entries will be narrowed down to the top three, and the general public will have two weeks ( February 15th to March 1st) to cast a ballot on which mascot best represents the spirit of the 2015 Games.
Games CEO Stu Ballantyne says the time frame shouldn’t be a challenge “These are really bright kids, they’ve probably been thinking about this for a while, so it’s just a matter of them taking the time and getting the teachers engaged.” Ballantyne says they hope to have an official mascot into the market place by this summer.

At the Sherbrooke Games, the Ruby Throated Hummingbird was the mascot. Named “Zig-Zag” that mascot visited thousands of schools and tens of thousands of kids in Quebec, spreading the word about physical activity and healthy lifestyles.
The winning submission will be unveiled to the public on March 11th.

I submit “what does the Fox say” as the offical music for the winter games :D
zig-zag, Too funny!
zig-zag, Too funny!
i think a suitable official mascot for the city of prince george should be a pothole…
I agree with who…pothole
Salmon!!
I think the moose makes the most sense for PG.
not the moose anymore the liberal govt. with zero predator control the wolves are killing them all
I add my vote for “pothole”.
The official mascot should be one of those comically over-sized sacks of money with a dollar sign on the side and it can be nick-named “PAC”
I like this quote by Stu Ballentyne. âThese are really bright kids, theyâve probably been thinking about this for a while, so itâs just a matter of them taking the time and getting the teachers engaged.â
Yup, my kid is constantly pestering me about coming up with a mascot. Sh says it all she thinks about.

I think the moose makes the most sense for PG.
Sorry, I’m busy those days.
Let me make a bold prediction: whatever they pick as a mascot, it will be hated by all the same people that complain about the games.
I know, I know, I’m a regular “kreskin” :D
The search for the 2015 Winter games mascot is over⦠here it is:

Come on people, naked mole rat has been picked on and berated enough, it’s his time to shine, vote for him please ;-)
Ok, People#1, I change my vote to naked mole rat. He’s sexy! But can we name him Pothole? Please?
It is time to show the black bear some respect. Prince George is the âBear Sink Capital of BCâ. Conservation officers persecute more bears in our area than anywhere else in the province.
News2me; DONE!!!
Vote for naked mole rat named “pothole” for our winter games mascot everyone! :-D
Pothole the potmole. LOL
Zig zag? Like those rolling papers with the bearded guy on the front? Naked mole rat with a “faux” (French) fur coat. Got to squeeze a little Francophony word in there somehow.
Pot hole, I Like it.
Breaking News:
“Pothole” the naked mole rat says; “I am ready to be a Canada 2015 Winter Games mascot, it would be both a honour and a privilege.”

What about Sheri Green, she will be looking for work by then!
Zig Zag? Is it White or Blue Zig Zag. I prefer white. A year to go and no mascot ? ? Shouldn’t some dude in a suit have been running around promoting this event for a year already ?
We do have some other options.
1. Pine Beetle
2. Sturgeon (They breed at the confluence of the Nechako and Fraser River at high water)
3. Snowy Owl.
4. Crows. They keep our streets clean.
5. Squirrels.
Caterpillars.
What about good old Mr. PG. he is truly our mascot already
What really gets me about this is this comment:
“There isnât much time though, as all entries will have to be submitted by February 7th”
That is 3 weeks at the most.
One would have thought that someone could have gone over their to-do checklist before this. Why did this get forgotten.
However, I have been thinking about this for some time …. I love lox (lachs) … so I vote for salmon … frozen, brined, smoked salmon on a bagel with cream cheese.
Served at all local restaurants during the game.
Yummy… :-)
I agree with tractor …. put some moose antlers on him. …. and a lox on bagel with cream cheese in his mouth.
Palopu suggested a Sturgeon. ‘Nuff said
I have to agree with gus. This seems awfully late in the game to be picking a mascot. You’d figure they’d want to have that done as early as possible for the marketing opportunities, etc.
The mascot must be a bear, eagle, salmon, moose, fox or cougar.
The Sherbrooke mascot was a Hummingbird.
Is that some sort of Quebec exemption ? Or do the summer games use a different criteria ?
I think there is a story behind the story here.
I looked at the list of mascots for all the summer and winter games. To me it looks like the limitation was set by someone at head office of the games or locally since the mascots are all over the place as hinted at by middle finger.
How did they do that, when did they do that and why were children or whoever not involved with that. But, mainly, why did it take so long?
I agree that the most obvious is that marketing efforts have already started as we saw from the t-shorts. If there is going to be a mascot, it should have been selected some time ago and the imagery should have been out in the public a long time ago.
It takes time to get this stuff mass produced in China. There goes another part of the $90million that is supposed to come our way. The leakage on this event is going to be huge. I wish someone would give us the true picture of that leakage.
Pothole, unplowed street, or a sheet of ice…
Marketing, go to the elementary schools and indoctrinate young impressionable minds. How about a crow, it has the characteristics.
Actually Mr. PG should be the natural choice, as he is already our mascot.
If it happens to be a salmon as a mascot, that salmon better be wearing a sweater claiming he is a “wild salmon” as opposed to a “farmed salmon”. I can imagine a wild salmon riding a bucking bronco whereas the farmed salmon would be operating a farm tractor. Perception is everything. Don’t want to upset all them Sazooki types out there.
