Prince George, B.C. – A new sponsorship partner has come on board for the 2015 Canada Winter Games, and is setting a precedent in doing so.

Games officials were on hand at the newly-opened Kin 1 arena today to announce that Lakewood Dental Group, which is comprised of seven dentists, is now an official sponsor of the Games and is the first sponsor of an official venue for the Games.   What is means is that for the 18-day period of the 2015 Games, Lakewood Dental Group has naming rights for Kin 1, and it will be called Lakewood Dental Arena at CN Centre.

One of the partners in the dental group, Dr. Tessa von den Steinen, says “the decision to get involved was a collective one.  We feel that supporting Prince George and the youth, and what the Canada Games can actually provide the city of Prince George to be very important.  It’s also about bringing awareness of health, which includes dental health, to the community but mainly a lot of us grew up in Prince George, myself included, and we just see supporting our youth as really important and we’re excited to be a part of it.”

Dr. von den Steinen adds “not only did we give financial support but we’re also going to be providing dental care to the athletes during the two weeks, so if an athlete knocks a tooth out or has a toothache we’ll be the dental team on hand to help take care of them.  By helping financially support the games and the arena we’re hoping that the athletes will be able to benefit from that as well.”

Games CEO Stu Ballantyne says “the opportunity to sponsor a venue for the 2015 Canada Winter Games offers great exposure for our partners.  With athletes, coaches, volunteers, fans and media utilizing the venues at Games time, sponsoring an official venue makes them part of the Games experience.”

Dr. Kit Wong, one of the managing partners at Lakewood Dental, has lots of knowledge about the Canada Winter Games.  His son Chris won a silver medal at the 1999 Games in Newfoundland and went on to represent Canada in freestyle skiing at the Turin, Italy Winter Olympics in 2006.

I know I’m being rude asking the question, but how many dollars does it cost to have an arena named after your business for 18 days ?

I’m thinking the middle finger moguls course sounds cool.

Thanx Lakewood.

Middle Finger, I’m curious, why does this concern you? Are you considering offering sponsorship dollars to a venue, just as Lakewood Dental has?

Whether or not you agree or disagree with the games, the need for the games or the cost to the taxpayer for the games, it does strike me as a bit rude to seem negative towards a local business that has stepped up to the plate to offer sponsorship dollars as well as dental services during the games. This seems like a very generous thing for Lakewood to be doing considering that they have very little financial gain by doing so!

Digging a little deep today for something to complain about, are we??

I was kinda wondering how much it costs to sponsor a venue too. It wouldn’t hurt to give that info out. Maybe someone else out there is interested in sponsoring.

There is no transparansy to this event absolutely none and why are no reporters asking, reason is because they want the advertising revenue from this so follow the money trail

Hart Guy. Yes I am considering sponsorship.
Are you lonely without Peeps to argue with ? Maybe you should come see us and we will remove that thorn from your paw.

Oh, I should have mentioned, as long as the venue is south of the Nechako river.

Middle Finger, I never get lonely! Life without Peeps is wonderful but I always know that Peeps is watching us from the shadows and will arise each day, just like the sun!

My comment was based on the my opinion that it seems like there is always someone who feels compelled to come along and try to turn every good news announcement, any positive announcement into something negative.

I best be careful that I don’t become one of those people! In the spirit of that comment, have a wonderful weekend!
