Cougars and Investors Working Out a Deal
Prince George, B.C. – After months of rumours that the Prince George Cougars had been “sold”, and the Cougars’ organization denying that a deal had been reached, comes confirmation “negotiations are underway”.
While the deal has not yet been “done”, 250News can now confirm the Cougars organization has entered into talks with some local investors, which include former Prince George Cougar players Dan Hamhuis and Eric Brewer and local businessman Greg Pocock.
It is expected the “t’s” will be crossed and all the “i’s” dotted in time for the April 30th meeting of the WHL Board of Governors, at which time the pending sale is expected to be approved. It is also expected a condition of the sale being approved will be that the team remain in Prince George for at least two years in an effort to improve the team's financial situation.

I wonder if my old season ticket seats are available.
Awesome, Looking forward to a good change of direction.
If this goes through, I will wear my Cougars jersey to the first Ottawa 67’s game I attend next year in honour of the change.
There sure are a lot of “quotes” in this “article”. It will happen when it happens, I suppose.
What “exactly” are you tying to “suggest” JB? LOL :)
You know, if, and only if this deal goes through with absolutely no chance of Brodsky still owning the team – I’ll probably buy a season ticket for no better reason than show the departing owner a singular finger. If the new owners sell 4500 season tickets, that means the former owner gave up over a million a year in revenue – just to give his daughter and her husband a job. I have no problem supporting a team, as long as the owners support it as well. And this is one time I fully support the owner as coach (that’s if Eric or Dan are interested).
The big change here, is when prospects are told they got drafted by PG, they’ll be going to a team with real connections within the NHL that will improve their chances. I don’t think they’ll be many kids taking a pass on playing for a team with Hamhuis and Brewer as part owner. The previous owner – well, history speaks to that.
If the team is sold, there sure seem to be a lot of people who say they’ll run out and buy season’s tickets. I’ll be interested to see if that actually happens.
Oh it will happen… at least for myself and a few others who used to have season tickets.
There certainly is a lot of quotes in that story. But hopefully where there is smoke there is fire. It will be very exciting news to hear once the deal is actually done!
This is old news.
We will have to wait and see what comes out of this.
Seems like the opposite is also true, ie; they can leave Prince George after two years. So it (could) come down to ticket sales, and of course that will be a problem, especially if the team continues to lose.
There is no guarantee that the team will start winning just because it was sold. They will have to actually win games. Can they do it??? Who knows??? How many fans will they get back??? Most of the old fans have gone on to other things, and I doubt if there is sufficient new fans to fill the CN Centre.
However I could be wrong.
Kind of a old “scoop” at this point. A papa Brodsky quote would be a coup for 250.
Love it. I remember the old days. Lets bring em back. Ill buy seasons!
If they stay in Prince George for two years to improve the teams financial situation and it doesn’t improve, then what happens????
Where would they go after two years????
“Where would they go after two years????”
Winnipeg or Nanaimo. Most likely Winnipeg as they have the infrastructure and the league is interested in giving Brandon some local competition. Nanaimo would have to get over the facility hurdle, but there is interest there as well.
Well the good thing is.. They can’t do much worse..lol
haven’t been to a game in probably 15 years, the first game that doesn’t have Dallas associated with it I will be there with my son. Nothing against Brandi as from a business side she probably did all she could. Mr. Pocock has done a lot for PG hockey and I will support him win or lose. Can’t wait.
Chara ?
People have to remember there never were any ‘good times’ outside of a couple of playoff runs in 20 seasons. They’ve never even won the division. This is why attendance has dropped off. People got tired of watching the team lose, and not seeing the team get good every few years like most WHL teams.
New ownership isn’t going to change that overnight, and it may even be a few seasons after that. Hopefully IF the team gets sold, people will not expect miracles.
I don’t care if they win or lose as long as the new owners do everything in their power to put the best possible management team in place and put the best possible product on the ice. Look at the job Marc Habschied did in Victoria. He wanted the job here and wanted a small percentage of ownership in the team. They flat out refused him. He moved on and has done more in those two seasons than the Cougars have since they arrived.
This is great news. Hopefully it will bring hockey passion back to PG.
I don’t know if Winnipeg or Nanaimo are viable host cities. I believe the Ice are heading to Winnipeg anyway… Naniamo needs a venue, but I suppose that didn’t stop the Cougars from coming to PG.
I will be back for my season tickets.
With new owners it will be up to the fans of PG to support them. Let’s not be so negative. The fans that did not come to the games must at one time or another enjoyed watching the players that went to the NHL. I certainly enjoyed watching them. . Come on PG Support them for sure, a new beginning
