Clark Comments on Redford’s Resignation

Wednesday, March 19, 2014 @ 7:01 PM

Prince George, B.C.- Saying she refuses to allow in house fighting to get in the way of the business of the Province,  Alberta Premier Alison Redford has announced she is resigning.

Her resignation will take effect Sunday, March 22nd.

B.C. Premier Christy Clark's relationship with Redford hasn't always been what  one  would call 'warm', none the less, Clark has issued a statement on  Redford's departure:

"I want to thank Premier Alison Redford for her contributions to Alberta and all of Canada.

Working with Premier Redford at Council of the Federation, New West Partnership, and Western Premiers' Conference, we accomplished a lot.

We also made significant progress in bilateral relations between our provinces, helping to secure our shared economic and environmental future.

Whatever challenge she chooses to take on next, I wish Alison the very best."

Scandals scandals, show a politician you can trust lol

Should have gotten yourself in a Rob Ford video. They seem to increase a persons popularity.

CHRISTY woman up do the right thing hand in YOUR RESIGNATION.

So, after the recent articles and editorial opinions of women in power in the local media, we see that women do just as well as men at the scandal and power game.

From the article linked below:

“Redford’s problems escalated last week when she announced she was paying back the entire $45,000 she spent on first-class tickets and a government plane to travel to South Africa for Nelson Mandela’s memorial in December after weeks of refusing to do so.

“The next day, Calgary-Foothills MLA Len Webber stepped down from the PC caucus, alleging that Redford treated people poorly and wasted taxpayers’ dollars.

“At least 10 Tory MLAs held a closed-door meeting in downtown Edmonton Sunday night to discuss the possibility of quitting the party and sitting as independents.

” ……. Redford has faced other questions about her spending, including her use of a government plane to fly to an uncle’s funeral in Vancouver as well as take her daughter and a friend on several trips.

“She announced that she would repay $3,156 to cover the cost of those flights.”

The message here may be to keep your private and public affairs clean so that one can keep to the business of government and not give people the easy tools for winning “in house fighting” battles.

Now, about those trips people in position of trust take on PG municipal tax payers’ money.

Nothing like watching the right eat their own at the first sign of trouble. Nom, nom, nom… ;-)

Redford’s travelling expenses were upsetting Albertans. Clarks needs to show transparency in her expenses and what she is charging BC taxpayers. Its amazing that BC voters do not demand clarifications and reasons .

“CHRISTY woman up do the right thing hand in YOUR RESIGNATION.”

Lol. Good luck with that thought.

Peeps: “Nothing like watching the right eat their own at the first sign of trouble. Nom, nom, nom… ;-)”

You say that as if the NDP didn’t do the same thing. How many leaders did they chew through in the 90’s? You’re probably too young to remember.

Ah yes, I wonder how an ex premier would feel about being fed to the lions by their own…over to you Mike Harcourt. ;)

Ice -snap out of it. The last time the Ndp was in power , at the end of thier reign we had rallies at Cn centre “have you had enough”.The place was packed.Shoulder to shoulder. There is nothing the Ndp and their buddies the BCTF didn’t screw up. Yeah lets get the liberals out and become a have not province again
Your stupidity amazes me !

CHRISTY she has far more guts than you at least she was woman enough to RESIGN what you should have done long ago Redford was a very educated lady and her past shows that. Maybe she should come to BC and clean up the mess we are in .

To all those who think Cristy should resign look in the mirror and you will see stupidity staring back at you.
Then give your head a shake and realize she has done an excellent job and that showed up in the election with the results.

She is old school thinking when it involves people. Glad to see her do the honorable thing.

Redford and Shari Green show a lot of similarities. On the news last night, the reporter mentioned a few about Redford that remind us of Shari Green.

Redford- Travel scandal.
Green – China trips
Redford- Unapproachable
Green – Unapproachable
Redford – Arrogant
Green – Very arrogant
Redford- Entitlement
Green – Entitlement
Redford- Lost her support in her caucus
Green – Lost her support in councel

oh never, how nice of you to insult us all. I recall Krispy was not elected, and could not keep her own riding in the latest election. and yes she has done an excellent job creating scandal after scandal

I wasn’t insulted by Oh Never I consider the source , some one who is uneducated and has no clue what the hell is going on .She or he might also think Spender Green is the bees knees also .

Who cares who the flavour of the day is, as long as they work for the taxpayers of BC and have a conscience. That pretty much rules out any political party or member out there that I can see.

detoe43 states; “Ah yes, I wonder how an ex premier would feel about being fed to the lions by their own…over to you Mike Harcourt. ;)”

“Harcourt’s government seemed immune to the scandals that plagued Ontario’s NDP government under Bob RAE, and BC remained one of the few areas of economic growth in the country. Harcourt was able to achieve much of his legislative agenda until the Bingogate scandal erupted in 1994.”

“Although Harcourt had no direct involvement in the scandal, he became the focus of public wrath, and under intense pressure he announced his resignation in November 1995.”

http://thecanadianencyclopedia.com/en/article/mike-harcourt/

So… even though “Harcourt had no direct involvement in the scandal” he resigned to take the blame for his party… how “HONORABLE” is that??!!? So tell us detoe43; how do you compare Mike Harcourt’s reason for resignation to the “personally extravagant” jet setting, travel claiming, publically funded, lifestyle of Alison Redford’s resignation?

My dad says he misses the days when politicians were “honorable”, and were accountable to “people’s interests”, not like they are now cow towing to business and corporate interests, and you know what? I agree with him!!!

Except that your dad was wrong. Politicians have never lived up to their commitment to the electorate.

politician plus honorable = military intelligence, i.e., oxymoron.

A politicians only task is to get reelected and fill their pockets from the public purse.

No People#1, I was referring to how Mike Harcourt was run out of his own party by the “young guns”, Glen Clark, Moe Sihota etal. I actually thought Harcourt was a pretty decent Premier. What followed after him made me vow to never vote NDP again. Clark & his ship of fools almost broke our province & it was “scandal after scandal”. It’s one thing to cut & paste news stories & quotes that fit your political agenda, it’ s quite different to have lived through it.

Bwahahahahahaha, “the days when politicians were “honourable” “. Bwahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha…ha….ha Oh, that ‘s priceless.

Hmmm… should we believe the Canadian Encyclopedia or you detoe43?

Sorry, got to go with historic facts and the Canadian Encyclopedia, good effort on trying to rewrite history using your hard right perspective though. ;-)

Christy was defeated in her own riding and then had to look for a riding where she would be safe – if she had any morals she would have stepped down – no one else who was defeated had another chance to try again.
And when she speaks about the importance of public education – her child attends a private school; it is just like working for the Ford company but drive a Honda!!

woodwoman: “Christy was defeated in her own riding and then had to look for a riding where she would be safe – if she had any morals she would have stepped down – no one else who was defeated had another chance to try again.”

Oh come on now. The results from one riding don’t make a huge amount of difference, and it is not the first time it has happened. If you’re upset the Liberals won the election, just say so…

Didn’t get her own way?
Rolled up her apron and took off for another kitchen?

People, Mike Harcourt did resign because of the BingoGate scandal, which as far as political scandals go, was relatively benign. What was common knowledge was that he was forced to resign by internal forces within his caucus that didn’t feel he was a strong enough leader to suit their own personal agendas by the likes of Glen Clark, Moe Sihota, Andrew Petter & others. Hard right?? I have never posted anything to suggest my political leanings as being to the right in any shape or form. If you had actually read what I posted you would have garnered that I used to support the NDP but because of what that party’s history, what it has become & what it now represents I could never do so again. Like JB posted, you are obviously far too young & inexperienced to remember what our province endured in the Glen Clark years of governmental abuse of power & privilege. Remember, they were the Government & they could (& did) what they wanted.

detoe43 states; “What was common knowledge was that he was forced to resign by internal forces within his caucus that didn’t feel he was a strong enough leader…”

Still relying on hearsay and “common knowledge” as a substitute for documented fact. The Canadian Encyclopedia states he resigned over Bingogate, are you now claiming the Canadian Encyclopedia is wrong?

State your source detoe43.

you actually have an encyclopedia?

What year is the last update addendum, 1989?

Reading it actually makes people smarter!

Good comment woodwoman, the part about Christy sending her child to private school while speaking about the importance of public education is the kind of hypo”crisy” no one on the right will touch.

Mind if I use this the next time a story appears on here about BCTF negotiations? I will raise it when the regular teacher bashers start whining again.

People, once you get a bit of actual political experience under your belt you may actually realize that just because something isn’t written in a book or online doesn’t make it any less of a fact or true. Books do not make you smarter, anyone can read a book & spout useless facts & figures. Real life experiences & what we learn from them are the true measure of wisdom. Knowledge is not intelligence & intelligence is not wisdom. Rather the application of intelligence leads to wisdom.

I am so sick of these threads being hijacked with this one on one bickering. Why don’t you guys just exchange emails and get together and have it out. Go troll somewhere else. There are 2 or 3 people on here whose only agenda, I am sure, is to see how many people they can antagonize regardless of the topic.

People, since you’re so fond of the cut & paste… Vaughn Palmer, Vancouver Sun, July 22, 2013; “Premier Mike Harcourt resigned after Bingogate, not because he’d been implicated in any way (he wasn’t) but only after he was unable to persuade his own party to buy into the housecleaning he favoured.”
http://www.vancouversun.com/news/Vaughn+Palmer+Ethnicgate+over+hardly+career+killer/8693962/story.html#ixzz2wYFQrSmv
and…VICTORIA — Amid multiple calls for Adrian Dix to vacate the New Democratic Party leadership, one party elder is questioning whether another change at the top is the right solution at a troubled time.

“Will a new leader save the NDP?” asks Gerard Janssen, former MLA, caucus whip and cabinet minister in an open letter that he sent my way this week. “Is it always the leader that’s at fault, or is that just too convenient?”

The current chair of the NDP internal oversight committee, Janssen is concerned about the revolving door approach to leadership, starting with the 1984 convention that chose a successor to Dave Barrett.

“We had a huge lead in the polls and Bob Skelly was to lead us to our second victory, but we blew that lead and lost.” Skelly then quit as MLA for Alberni and Janssen replaced him in a byelection. He also stepped down as leader.

“Along came Mike Harcourt, quiet, unassuming and, as was said at the time, not scary for a New Democrat.” Harcourt won the 1991 election. “But after displaying some of the best administrative skills this province has ever seen, we forced him out.”

Need more “facts”.

Huh: “I am so sick of these threads being hijacked with this one on one bickering. Why don’t you guys just exchange emails and get together and have it out.”

It seems that you have a problem with the comments section, Huh. Why not stop reading it altogether, and save yourself the stress it’s causing you?

Nice one detoe43, switch your “opinion” for that of some editorial “opinion”.

Opinions are not facts and do not make it into the Canadian Encyclopedia. Sorry.
