New DNA Evidence Results In Ft St John Man Being Charged In 1990 Case
Calgary, Alberta – A Fort St. John man has been charged in connection with a cold case in Calgary that dates back to 1999.
At approximately 12:30 p.m., on July 6, 1999, a woman was on the back patio of her home with her baby. Leaving her child on the backyard patio, she momentarily stepped inside to grab a toy. As she was walking back though the house to her kitchen she was confronted by a man.
She attempted to defend herself from her attacker by grabbing a nearby pen and attempting to stab the offender numerous times.
The offender left through the front door of her house, and after locking it behind him, she immediately ran to check on her baby on the back patio, who was unharmed, and called police.
This case was thoroughly investigated at the time, but became a cold case. In 2011, advances in technology led to confirmation through DNA of a match to a man living in British Columbia. The case was then reopened, and on Friday, March 28, 2014, a Canada-wide warrant was issued for the suspect’s arrest.
William James BROOKSHAW, 40, of Fort Saint John, B.C., is charged with overcome resistance by choking, sexual assault and break and enter. BROOKSHAW has been returned to Calgary to face the charges.

Good work RCMP.
justice is served.
Often we chastise errors made by the RCMP, Rarely do we praise them when they do a good job.
Oh dont worry He spoke – some of these folks will complain that it took too long and then there will be a few mandatory stapler jokes. The mouth breather crowd is nothing if not predictable.
Way to go RCMP, thank you for not giving up
Good for the Calgary Police Service, well done!
I agree completely with He Spoke and interceptor. These kinds of comments about the RCMP are just as predictable as the “hang em high” pitch fork holding, torch carrying, lynch mob comments that appear on here under every crime news articles… so predictable.
People#1, I am one of those people that will gripe when they do wrong. But I will complement when they do right.
