Plan of  upgraded Civic Plaza

Prince George, B.C.- The  plan to upgrade the Civic Plaza  in Prince George for the Canada Winter Games has just been given a shot in the arm

The Federal Government will be kicking in $335,000  for the project.  Prince George Peace River MP Bob Zimmer says the funding is coming  from the  Building Communities through Arts and Heritage  program "This project is a great way to mark one hundred years for Prince George and will be an asset in the growing cultural landscape of northern British Columbia"  says Zimmer.

The overall  upgrade to the  Plaza, ( which has since been renamed the Canada Games Plaza)   is expected to cost   more than a million dollars.  The City has already set aside $500 thousand for the project  and the Northern Development initiative Trust  has  put in $30 thousand.

The  project is open to corporate donorship as well.

Instead of upgrading a city plaza, could we apply this money to upgrading things that really need it in PG? Just a thought.

Can’t wait to see the total bill to the city tax payers for hosting these games, we will be paying fir decades fir this fiasco

Yep. it looks like it will hold about 150 people if they’re all standing. Great public gathering place!

I’m pretty sure it can hold 700 – 1000 people easily.

Lot of naysayer about the winter games. The same naysayers complaining of nothing ever happens in PG. The same naysayers complaining about how drab everything looks in PG.

What a beautiful senerio for the landscaping of the Civic what ever it’s called…..but I seem to recall that it’s for the WINTER GAMES…unless the city is going to plow and snow remove from this location, because it will be covered in SNOW…..

Excellent point PGP, but with the way our snow removal is you can tell our council doesn’t think it snows here….lol

Most of that money is already gone in consulting fees and drafting.

PG Girl, Yeah, I’m pretty sure the snow removal next year will be impeccable. Thus they have asked for a 30% increase.

That does bring in a very good point thou.
We are going to be planting deciduous trees in the plaza. So it will be leafless scrawny looking things in the middle of winter. Oh, well I guess its a whole bunch of Charlie Brown Christmas trees.

No money for above ground or below ground infrastructure…sewer, water, snow removal but always seems to be enough for unnecessary stuff….

Shovels only in the space … you could never get a snowplow to work properly in there….where are you going to plow to?

Money from the feds means a lot signage featuring a dying language. Thanks Pierre you ahole.

Hey contractor, how many people reading this will actually get your meaning? That’s a good observation/comment though.

Maybe the streetpeople can pay their jaywalking tickets by time spent shovelling the Plaza.
