Farnworth Drops Out of NDP Leadership Race

Vancouver, B.C.- Mike Farnworth has dropped out of the leadership race for the BC New Democrats.
He has announced he is throwing his support behind John Horgan, and has called for "party unity".
With Farnworth out of the running, significant numbers of NDP caucus members supporting Horgan, and ( at this point) no other candidates, Horgan could well be named leader by acclamation.
The leadership convention is set for September.

Meh.
“…party unity?” Mikey left. Get out there and herd cats. Easier than disillusioned Dippers, eh?
“…we said…meh” :)
Say what you will about the lack of direction or effective leadership for the NDP, any parliamentary democracy without an effective opposition is in trouble.
Not a fan of the NDP, but a good, charismatic leader would maybe improve the partys standing, especially if he or she begins to bring the party politics a little more to the right of center. It would not be a bad thing for the BC Liberals to have some competition.
metalman.
Too bad they didn’t make Corky Evans their leader when they had the chance. Friend of mine who normally has what could only be described as very strong ‘right wing’ views was head of a local farmers association when Evans was Minister of Agriculture and dealt with him extensively and was greatly impressed by his common sense. And if any NDPer could impress that guy he would certainly have had to have a lot more on the ball than any of the other leaders or hopefuls the NDP has had or put forward.
