Prince George, BC – Members of the Northern Edge Snowboard Club are off to the 'Shred the North' Mega Cross in Smithers this weekend, after a strong showing at the Canadian National Snowboard Cross Championships at Big White in Kelowna last weekend…

17-year-old Meryeta Odine competed in both the Junior and Senior Women's FIS events at the nationals, finishing in 5th spot and 4th place, respectively.  While 15-year-old Evan Bichon came in 9th in the Junior Men's event and 17th in the Senior Men's race.  Both athletes were competing against national and national development team members just back from Sochi and the Junior Worlds in Italy.

NESC members in the Under 14 category also came up with some great results:  Levi Foster finished first overall in the U14 Male Nationals, followed by teammates Colby Graham in 4th, Dawson Ellery in 5th, Griffin Wal placed 12th, and Jonathan Gullason was 13th.  In the U14 Female Nationals, Hailey Laing notched a 5th place finish.

Established just six years ago, the young snowboard club has made great strides in 'growing' the sports of snowboard cross and slopestyle in the region.  It's comprised of just over 20 athletes, mainly from Mackenzie and Prince George, training under head coach, Bill Laing.
