Turf Not Ready for Action Says City
Prince George, B.C. – Consider the many sport fields in Prince George right now to be closer to “Field and Stream” than “Field of Dreams”.
The City says while it may be tempting to get outside and do a few laps on one of the more than 50 baseball diamonds or sport fields, the turf just isn’t ready for any activity.
“We know everyone has a little spring fever and wants to get out there and enjoy the sunshine, but our fields are at a very vulnerable stage at this time of year,” says the City’s Parks Supervisor Sean LeBrun. “A bunch of people having fun can ruin the ground for others including organized sporting groups if they go out too early.”
The City doesn’t have enough staff to police all the fields to make sure folks are staying off until conditions improve but the Recreation and Cultural Service department has been in touch with sporting groups throughout the City to make sure teams don’t hit the fields before the fields are ready.
“At this time of year, a little patience and common sense can pay big dividends for the rest of the sporting season” says LeBrun.
So, if Mother Nature cooperates, and there is plenty of sunshine ahead, the City figures the fields could be ready for action on the weekend of May 10th, but that could change, it all depends on the weather.

When is the City scheduled to re-start work on Duchess Park? I thought there was a plan to convert that field to a artificial turf field? This would be a great addition to the city as the new Duchess park-grounds unbelievably popular. I think they were going to put in a parking lot and small auditorium as well?
Don’t forget the fields of poop!
I don’t think the city was planning to spend that much money on the new Park.
Plant a lot of trees. Parks in the future should have trees.
yeah, spring weather is a bit late this year here. Probably at least three weeks.
One good thing about this, The fish sure will be biting early in the season. They gonna be starvin’
