Giscome, B.C. – The modules have arrived.
It was September of 2012 that the announcement was made that Giscome Elementary would be replaced with new, modular classrooms. This past week, those modules arrived on site.
Modular classrooms have a 40 year life span, a bright open design, high ceilings and windows to allow for natural light and cross ventilation.
Students have been attending classes in portables since the original school was deemed unsafe in the spring of 2009. The old building had issues with mould and rote, and septic field problems.
“It’s good to see them, ” says School District 57 Superintendent Brian Pepper “ It’s a positive omen that we will have students in that facility this September.”

Nice to see they are attached to the school.
Hey the last school lasted fifty years.
Looks good guys. Those people out for a Sunday drive are going to be checking it out. A nice school out in the middle of nowhere.
Hope the limestone quarry goes ahead. get people working in the area again.
Limestone quarry will cover this school with dust.
Always something to complain about on here. Dust is everywhere in this god forsaken land. Why should Giscome be any different.
Good work on your accomplishment Denise MacDonald and crew! Your persistence paid off.
PGguy. What we are talking about here is dust from the Limestone Quarry, and manufacturing plant, which is a hell of a bigger problem than some dust from roads.
This dust will be spewed into the air 24/7.
There’s a lesson here for the people of Bear Lake and Salmon Valley. They should have gotten out and voted for a school trustee with kids in their (now closed) local schools.
Palopu, have you been to any of Graymont’s information meetings about the plant in the area?
BTW- Great job to all the communities along the East Line! You truly are a community of grit. Without your support there would be nothing there but a field now. What better place to have your children attend school than in the heart of country. Sure beats being bogged down by the pulp mills…..and all those souped of truck emissions…just sayin
taxednmaxed. No to your question, however I have seen the Graymont limestone plant at Pavilion BC, when driving the back route to Whistler.
Look it up on the internet and check it out. Obviously lots of dust around. Don’t see why it would be any different at Giscome. Basically the same type of plant.
Drove by this development on the weekend. It’s looking great!
