Brush Fires Keep Firefighters Hopping

Tuesday, May 6, 2014 @ 1:10 PM

Prince George, B.C. – Three small grass fires have been spotted along Highway 16   near the intersection with highway 97.

Callers to 250 News say they spotted the first one across from the Sandman hotel  near the  berm on the east side of Highway 16. A second was noted near Northland Dodge, and third in the area behind the dealership.

All three fires were minor and likely accidental says Prince George Fire rescue Chief John Iverson.  “It’s likely someone riding a bike through the area and dropping hot materials”.

The three small fires come in the wake of a series of serious blazes in the City  which have displaced a number of   people from apartment buildings on 10th and  at Westwood, and then there was Sunday night’s blazed on George Street. Chief Iverson says there is no need for the public  to  worry “The fires were all independent  random acts, there is nothing to indicate there  is any connection between them.”

I think anyone caught throwing a cigarette butt out should be fined. It is considered littering and has a possibility of causing fires.

There was also two fires last week in the field behind oak near the slough, they were put out quickly .
