Prince George, B.C. – Prince George RCMP are not yet confirming that an incident west of the city has resulted in fatalities.
Cpl Craig Douglass says police are investigating after a vehicle went into a lake during a rural party early this morning. As reported by 250 News, the Prince George RCMP detachment received a report around 4 this morning of a possible drowning at Kwitzil Lake, more commonly known as Gravel Pit Lake, just off Highway 16, about 32 kms west of Prince George.
The RCMP, the Beaverly Fire Department and the BC Ambulance Service attended the scene. A vehicle went into the lake and police say two people were possibly in the vehicle at the time. The area was the scene of a large party throughout the night.
Prince George Search and Rescue have attended the area and have located a vehicle in the lake. The RCMP's Underwater Recovery Team is currently en route to Prince George from Kamloops and is expected to arrive this afternoon.
This investigation is in its early stages. The Prince George RCMP have called in a number of extra resources to assist. At this time, no determination has been made as to what led to the vehicle going into the water.
Kwitzil Lake is located on the south side of Highway 16 near the Isle Pierre Road.

So sad for the family and friends it’s all over Facebook first thing this morning. My understanding is PGSS is to be out at the same Lake tonight.
Do you know that drinking and driving was involved DPJ? I’d hate to assume. I’ve been to Kwitzil a number of times over the years and the one thing about there is that the access to the water is quite steep. It’s entirely possible that it was just an accident.
The teens that Know what was going on out there stated that they where drunk.
Extremely sad every year we loose one of our children at after grad/ dry grad parties I have children the same age and it hurts me too. We can’t stop our kids from going to these events it’s part of tradition.. My prayers are with the families.. such a terrible senseless loss!
Those with information are asked to call RCMP’s non-emergency line: (250)561-3300.
How about helping the police do their job, rather than insensitively reporting the tragic deaths of two underage children?
It’s been all over Facebook from the kids that where there with the names of the kids. Facebook travels faster then the news. Some of the kids that new them have gone out to the seen today and gather to support each other at homes
