Plenty of Violations Noted in Vehicle and Traffic Checks

Monday, June 16, 2014 @ 2:04 PM

Prince George, B.C.-  There may  have been a lot of vintage vehicles in Prince George over the weekend, but  they were not the offenders in a  safety  check  by PG. Traffic Services of the RCMP and the Commercial Vehicle  Safety Enforcement Team.

Thursday and Friday nights of last week,  RCMP Traffic and  CVSE officers   teamed up, and  they produced some serious results, issued  229 charges and warnings over the two nights.

  • 135 vehicle defect violations
  • 35 vehicle defect warnings
  • 20 drivers licence related violations
  • 7 moving violations (speeding, stop signs, red lights, etc)
  • 7 drug seizures
  • 6 vehicles without insurance
  • 5 vehicle impounds
  • 5 criminal code charges
  • 2 prohibited drivers
  • 2 arrested on outstanding warrants
  • 2 electronic device violations
  • 1 seat belt violation
  • 1 – 90 day immediate roadside prohibition
  • 1 – 24 hour driving prohibition

More joint enforcement between the two agencies is being planned.

I pulled up beside a guy at a red light at 25th and Carney yesterday in a big Red Ram 2500 and he was yakking his head off on a cell phone. Oblivious to life. It’s only against the law if you get caught. Right?

Make that 15th and Carney. Faulty keyboard.

Nice going! I do wish though that they could give a total number of vehicles checked. It would lend some perspective to the story.
As far as vehicles with no insurance, I hope they were impounded.
A vehicle defect can be as minor as one clearance light out but I see several vehicles running around with only one out of three stop lights working. I can only hope they caught some of these too.

Only 2 electronic device violations? Seems odd to me.

Driving with no insurance should automatically result in loss of license for life.

When I see someone on their phone at an intersection I just lay on the horn or crank up the stereo!

If they were really concerned about safety violations they would spend a couple hours sitting at 5th and central watching for trucks running the red light and easily double that number.

Thanks for keeping us a little safer.

I hope you’re not distracted by having a stereo loud enough to disturb someone on their phone in another vehicle NoWay

No not at all. All the controls are on the steering wheel right beside the horn!

About driving without insurance, the odd person will forget to reinsure their vehicle and then remember (as they are driving of course) and will try very carefully to drive to the nearest broker. This happened once with me. Counted down the blocks to BCAA.

O/T the police are looking for a non-white male who held up the credit union. Now that’s a big help from the P/C police. So I guess every non white male is under suspicion, egads. If I was non-white I would be offended. If it was a white male would they have said white? Why did they say male person? Would not homo sapien be more P/C?

Keep your vehicles in good shape folks!

Its sad to me that drug seizures equal moving violations. And why are there only 5 criminal code charges when there’s 7 drug seizures?

Regarding distracted driving….what about those idiots that drive around a dog in their lap?

The fuzz needs to be out on our hwy’s busting all the dangerous drivers out there. It’s getting really bad out west. That includes many professional drivers. One bad one hauls dairy. Another one drives a red dually with a red canopy. No wonder the number of roadside memorials are growing.

But there is no money in trying to actually make it safe for people, is there?

RCMtax collectors!

If you knew anything about trucks you wouldn’t have posted this.
