Morris Leads Review Of IIO Office
Prince George, BC – Prince George-Mackenzie MLA, Mike Morris, is leading an all-party committee reviewing the Independent Investigations Office of BC…
Established in 2011, the civilian-led IIO conducts investigations into police-related incidents involving deaths or serious injuries to determine whether an officer may have committed an offence. Just last week, the office's director announced an outside review would be carried out to examine the IIO's handling of an investigation into the shooting death of Greg Matters of Prince George. On Friday, Morris announced the Special Committee to Review the IIO would be seeking public consultation as part of the review. "We are seeking input from British Columbians on the effectiveness of its administration and general operations."
The call for public input closes September 26th, for more information and to make a submission, click here.

Morris ex cop. Cops investigating cops, investigating cops?
———–
I don’t usually agree with the mut but I have to in this case.
I do think you need some input from the police side in these investigations. They will be independent but the general public often does not comprehend the intracacies of why the police do what they do.
They have a lot of constraints that they have to comply with.
I vote for MICKEY MOUSE ,, cant be any worse than the cartoon characters we have now in control.
Chest, or back,, do they not test for IQ levels?? should they really have guns??
Agreed! So we have a BC Liberal who is riding mates with Shirley Bond who created the IIO, and an ex cop investigating this. Isn’t this what the IIO was created to prevent?
A friend in need is a friend indeed.
Maybe they should investigate why complaints to the cops regarding a drug processing house in College Heights have gone uninvestigated for two years now.
IIO is lead by and ex cop too if you really want to complain.
No complaining here. Just observations. Which in this case obviously sets the tone and maybe reaffirms or resets the attitude for every individual when it comes to unwarranted or helpful cynicism and hopefully objective points of view on this or any other matter.
Sayitaintso – first, don’t think the IIO carry guns so no worries there, second I believe in the coroners report the bullets entered the side and exited the other side from the back to the front. No ‘cop’ is going to shoot a suspect that is between them and another officer or the other uniform could be hit by the stray bullet
Don’t bother explaining slinky – the cop bashers don’t worry about anything but twisting facts to help them yap about the terrible rcmp – until they need them of course.
Upon review of recent cases being investigated by the IIO, I admit I expected to find all investigations ending in no charges being recommended against any of the police officers involved in acts of serious harm or deaths of citizens.
I was surprised to find three (3) cases where the IIO investigation resulted in recommendations that charges be approved against those officers involved. Go figure, I guess we shouldnât be so hard on the IIO, except perhaps in the Greg Matters case? You can read about the charges laid cases, and others the IIO have recently investigated, by clicking on the âCharges Approvedâ or “No Charges Approved” here:

Would you care to share with everyone, where he was a cop?
Or is your post defamatory?
Think Morris is a good choice for this.
And I am sure he has wondered whether he made the right choice to become an MLA at times. But, I know he’ll do right by the majority who put him there.
There is already a well known lawyer, Mark Jette, appointed to review IIO’s handling of the Matters case, probably because someone complained about the IIO investigation. Now, we’ve got a committee set up to review the IIO.
Hope the committee puts a lid on this soon or there may not be an IIO.
Folks wanted an IIO, we got one, now a few complain still, but that’s human nature.
Hope they work through this soon.
