Sure hope nobody stopped for ducks.
I am just surprised it does not happen more often . That bridge narrows quite a bit .
Once the bridge reaches its death injury quota it will get replaced.
Ya lets blame the bridge. Two large trucks can safely pass one another over it.
How does 6 vehicles crash on a little bridge like this? Geez, I wonder if humans were involved?
Two large trucks with two truckers with puckered up rear ends. That bridge is dangerous because some people actually stop to let trucks go..
I have clipped mirrors on that bridge with oncoming truckers . 2 trucks cannot safety pass on that bridge unless they slow right down . I have been driving trucks across that bridge for years and always wonder if this time is it .
Funny, I drove trucks across that bridge for years too and never had a problem. I used to love taking wide loads across the old Fraser bridge too. The traffic that got all bunched up behind me along First Ave., used to back right off when I started picking up gears on the bridge.
I thought it was hilarious.
Dragonmaster: It would probably been hilarious to watch. (except for people getting injured of course.)
Dragon, you made me laugh. Coulda been as simple as a bee in a car.
How come there isn’t a story on what happened at the Nechako river bridge heading up the hart? 4 cop cars with flashing lights and people gawking over the edge. Not exactly breaking news coverage here.
I think I had someone throw something at my driver side door just after crossing the bridge heading north on Saturday about the same time. It looked like a can of coke that hit just below the window. I thought at the time it was timed to cause an accident if I swerved, but I couldn’t see anyone around and just figured I’d keep a closer look next time. It wouldn’t surprise me one bit if that is what happened here.
That said the bridge is a scary one especially in the winter with snow build up.
Hey seamut… your “death injury quota” comment was bang on true!
Great comment.
It was a four vehicle crash;
A gawker in a van (fifth vehicle) slowed to look at something, the Cherokee behind it managed to slow down and not hit him, but the three vehicles behind the Cherokee did not slow in time: bang bang bang. Six people transported to hospital, four vehicles towed. With all due respect to the injured, I think that driver inattention & following too close were the main causes for the three rear-enders. Got to keep your distance, and look ahead of the cars ahead of you.
Noticed that three for three, no air bags deployed, even though all three were significant front end collisions.
metalman.
Huh, when you see something happening send opinion 250 a note. They depend on reports from readers. Also if you are the first reporting an incident you may receive a reward, I have.
Airbags don’t deploy if the vehicle manages to slow below a set kmh before the accident
slinky
…”no airbags deployed”… With the millions of airbag recalls it’s a no brainer.
Slinky, point taken, however, if you had seen the damage to the front of the middle vehicle, I think you would agree that it was traveling fast enough to have triggered the airbag sensors. The rear of the lead vehicle (Cherokee) was quite crumpled where it had been struck by the front of the second vehicle, a Hummer, no airbags deployed in the Hummer. The third vehicle, a Suburban, had its front end crumpled up near to the windshield, no airbags deployed (maybe the front bumper went under the Hummers’ rear bumper?? the Suburban bumper was parked up against the bent rear shocks of the Hummer)
The fourth and last vehicle, a Volvo sedan, may have done the same, as the damage was mostly above the front bumper.
metalman.
