Man Uses Dogs To Prevent Arrest In Valemount
Valemount- A man has been released from custody, on a promise to appear in Valemount court, following a standoff last Thursday .
Police were called, after an adult male set up camp at a local outdoor recreation area, and was restricting access to the trails by having six unrestrained German Shepherd dogs on the property.
When approached by a user of the trail, the male threatened to harm her by using the dogs.
Police from Valemount, and McBride RCMP attended the location only to have the six dogs take after them.
The man used the dogs as a shield to prevent the police from making an arrest, resulting in a four hour standoff .
The man was eventually taken into custody . The dogs, along with several loaded firearms, were subsequently seized .
The man is facing numerous charges

What is going to happen to the dogs?
Loaded guns and dogs and the perp lived!
Yeah, it’s called psychology and quite often it works, sometime a lost cause,(referring to drunks)
Most likely the dogs will be evaluated and if deemed dangerous will most likely be put down and if they aren’t deemed a danger they could be released back to the owner or adopted out. It all depends on the courts decision pending evaluation
Too bad Mr. Matters didn’t have some guns and a few dogs. Only 4 hours eh!
How is this man released with a promise to appear? That’s messed up.
Norway, too bad he didn’t put down his weapons and surrender peacefully… Would be out on a promise to appear as well
