Prince George, BC – In announcing a unique partnership to enhance security at the upcoming 2015 Canada Winter Games, Prince George RCMP have detailed a special Integrated Service Unit that will be dedicated to public safety during next February's event.

Prince George RCMP Superintendent, Eric Stubbs, says several members of the 2015 Games ISU bring experience from the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics and will offer their expertise in planning for security at venues, as well as provide assistance with crisis communication planning and emergency management.  The unit will include officers, personnel, marked vehicles and a police dog trained in explosives.

Superintendent Stubbs says the RCMP will have a visible presence at venues to ensure public safety, but assures the unit will not impact regular levels of service.  He says there will be no added costs to taxpayers, as the unit is a collective of specialists brought together for Games time.

"Our goal is to support the athletes, officials, volunteers and spectators, so that they may have a safe and secure 2015 Games experience," says Stubbs.

"Prince George RCMP have been involved in helping us prepare for the 2015 Canada Winter Games since the City of Prince George's Games delegation first visited the Halifax Canada Games in 2011," says Games CEO, Stuart Ballantyne.  "We feel confident knowing that we're working with a dedicated group of individuals with the safety and security of our athletes, visitors and participants in mind."

Its too bad they weren’t promoting more RV tourism during the games by having a temporary RV park somewhere at Exhibition park, maybe at the old rodeo grounds. Lots of RV circle tour ski holiday potential for those coming in from the East or up from down South.

Also I don’t think PG will have the accommodations it will require for the games especially since both potential new hotels have put their projects on hold.

Did you mean we are getting the cart ahead of the horse? Could very well be.
Maybe we’ll have people camping out in school gyms.

Canada Winter Games have been held in twelve Canadian cities since 1967. The closest ones to PG were Grande Prairie Ab, and White Horse Yukon.

Has anyone in this area ever attended these games, that could give us a first hand account of how they were run, and how successful they were??

Just askin.

When a city applies to host the games, surely the availability of accommodations is one of the things they have to show. What does the application say about this? Presumably it is a public document.

Seems no one attended the games when they were held at other locations, so I wonder why people would think that others would attend the games in Prince George.??

Just another expense to the tax payers.. We will be disgustingly in debt once this fiasco is paid for

And no one cared about the games…..not surprising.

Another bust.
