Well if their wonderful SMART METERS were working they would know where the problem is….all that push to get the meters changed over and I doubt Hydro has any plans to activate them any time soon….waste of time and money…
and if you want to opt out, you are charged a fee for that , as they say because a person has to go and physically read the meter… guess what, they are still sending out people to read ALL OF THE METERS….talk about leagalized theft
Whaaat? The problem is a fault in a substation, what does that have to do with a smart meter on a house? Your drunk bcracer go home!
Fault located and identified within a massive power grid, repaired and power restored in under 2.5hrs, on a weekend no less…I’d call that pretty good service!
Waaaa BCRacer! You could always move and if you read the article you would know where the fault is.
BCRacer please educate us on how a smart meter can predict power outages or are you just whining because your being told to take something that will actually save you money in the long run
please feel free to elaborate on how the hell this is going to save us money?
okay lynch mob, I admit I din’t read the article fully…. I missed the part about the substation…
personal atacks NoWay and superdave????, I pegged you better than that.
Dearth, I never said it would predict problems, I said that they were suppose to tell Hydro where the problem was… immediately….
my issue is Hydro is scamming us… and no I am not saving one cent after having the inactive smart meter forced on me Dearth
The meters do tell hydro what section of a circuit is out, not what the problem is. For that it would have to detach itself and go for a walk to find the source of the problem. Not quite that smart, yet.
Sorry BCRacer I lost my cool, I thought the smart meter issue was a dead horse. Kind of like complaining about taxes.
What I like about the smart meter! I can see my real time power consumption and find things that are wasting power! What I found was my old deep freeze was a power hog. Not only was it too big for our needs it consumed 3x more per month than our new one. Kids have friends over every Sunday for gaming. Three high end PC’s going all day doubles the household power consumption compared to any other day. You can see the spike start when they start their gaming. Do I care whom reads my meter? No! But I can see what is causing my kWh and adjust accordingly to save me money!
Next up Sunday cover charge for gaming power consumption! ;)
no biggie NoWay, I unfortunately am not getting any information from my so called smart meter….but I have cut down about everything I can find, and my bills never get smaller….thus my thought that it is nothing but a scam….
by the way did you know that once therse meters are up an running that Hydsro can shut off any meter or group of meters remotely? like an artificial power outate so they could sell the unused power to others for more than you and I will pay them for it?
oppps sorry we don’t know why the power was off for 6 hours.
For one it is illegal for them to shut off people’s power on purpose especially in the winter time even if you have a cutoff notice. So your fears might be just but highly unlikely. Eventually you will see real time consumption and if you want to compare what your smart meter is saying to another device they are available for a reasonable amount of money. One I have considered is TED (The Energy Device) that will give you a more accurate reading on your end or a designed in BC version called Neurio. Neurio is pre selling now for 224.00 with a realese date in Dec.

People have devices like these to prove that their smart meters were inaccurate.
Smart meters..
I had a power outage awhile back after I had the smart meter installed and I called hydro to let them know and they said was I sure the power was out. Lol, I said yes, the street lights where out as well, she then asked if my neighbours lights were off and I said yes, she then asked me to go talk to a neighbour to make sure their power was out. I then asked her why the smart meter hadn’t let them know about the outage and she couldn’t answer me. The only thing the smart meters are for is so we can be charged two rates so we can pay more for the same service.
