Likely Residents Get Some Good News
Likely, B.C. – Residents in Likely and the area directly affected by the Mount Polley mine disaster received a double dose of good news on Friday.
First of all the water ban which had been in effect since Monday’s disaster was lifted in an area including and north of 6236 Cedar Creek Road on the Quesnel River and the balance of the Quesnel River system to the Fraser River. Interior Health Medical Health Officer Trevor Corneil says “we are pleased to be able to open things up from a health perspective from that point on the Quesnel River and from Likely, which should make things easy. We’ll see how things go over the days that follow and as results come in I may be able to rescind more of the original order.”
The second bit of good news comes from the chair of the Cariboo Regional District, Al Richmond. He says he’s pleased that the recent water test results have allowed some of the people affected by the disaster to get somewhat back to a normal life. He added “I’m pleased to announce the beginning of the portable showers for the remaining people subjected to this inconvenience have begun to arrive and Minister Polak and I were there to watch them unloading the tanks. So beyond that we are very appreciative of the collaboration between the province and Interior Health to get this resolved and we look forward to more promising announcements as it progresses.”
