Parents Gather in Richmond for Emergency Meeting

Saturday, August 16, 2014 @ 4:02 AM

Prince George, B.C. – The BC Confederation of Parent Advisory Councils is holding an emergency meeting today in Richmond.

Prince George DPAC president Sarah Holland is there and says parent representatives from around the province will be looking to put together a "unified parent voice before the new school year starts."

"And to develop a unified plan of action that strongly and best reflects parents' priorities," adds Holland.

The meeting comes on the heels of renewed talks between the provincial government and the BC Teachers Federation.

It's believed a deal will need to be reached this month to prevent the strike extending into the new school year in September.

Holland also notes that just because mediator Vince Ready has cleared his schedule this month for exploratory talks with both sides doesn't mean a deal is imminent or change today's meeting all that much.

"I'm sure that it will be a different item to discuss but it is concerning that he only indicated he'll be starting mediation when he thinks it would be productive. So once full mediation begins that will be a good sign. Right now all we have is a sign that they're letting someone else into the room."

The BC Confederation of Parent Advisory Councils should pass a motion to sue the Ministry of Education, and by extension, our provincial government for NOT delivering the public education services we, the taxpayer, paid for!

How bout suing the BCTF for interfering with the process?
How bout suing the teachers who voted to strike?

How about suing the NDP?? I wonder how things might be today if the NDP hadn’t kissed the butt of the BCTF in 1998 by gifting them with a clearly unaffordable “Sweetheart Deal”, the deal that started this whole mess??

How about Suing the NDP for ramming this deal through without any input from and in spite of opposition from the BCPSEA and the vast majority of school boards across the Province??

Our teachers, if unhappy, could always quit and move to Ontario!

Ontario’s teachers played a major role in the successful(?)re-election of the left-of-center Kathleen Wynne Liberal Government!

Now, things are rosy and peachy keen for Ontario’s teachers! Except for the fact that they are now fighting with the Kathleen Wynne Liberals!!

Oops, forgot to add a link! Must have had too much sun on my brain today!

Peeps, before you comment I would like to assure you that Yes, I do have a brain and I’m not brainwashed!!

It is a given that the Liberal Government wants to break the BCTF union. They have been a pawn for the NDP for decades. Would you stand by whilst someone chopped down the tree you had built a fort in? I feel for the teachers, I really do but it’s time to realize that the last election was lost and start organizing for the next. Butthurt doesn’t teach children, teachers do.

Then maybe you could learn how to post links properly?

Here let me help you with that Hart Guy!

In the end the teachers will get something and no one will be happy with it. The government will announce new money for education when it will actually be old money. Taxes will go up like they always have and we will keep on paying!
