There is a plague of mental illness in our population, and our governments are looking the other way. Many of the afflicted are relatively harmless other than being a nuisance, many of them commit a great deal of petty crime, but once in a while one of them loses it, and a victim is badly injured or dead. The police do their job in apprehending someone after a crime has been committed, and typically the justice system has them back on the street again after a few days served and a few conditions imposed, which they don’t bother obeying anyway.
Our society needs a more effective means of dealing with the mentally ill.
I think it is time to bring back the mental institutions.

Mental illness is very quickly assessed these days. Someone is acting irrational or crazy.. Must be mentally ill.. Not responsible for their actions.. Etc. if you are under the influence of something you took.. Your are responsible for your actions.
I do agree our medical system is in shambles.. But to so quickly toss out mental illness as a reason bothers me.. After a complete assessment by a professional who comes to that conclusion is more trustworthy than people jumping to conclusions about the state of mind of this person.
The sad part is someone is dead.. Family and friends have lost a loved one.
Metalman I Agree if someone commits a violent crime due to mental illness then it should be a ticket straight to the mental asylum for a long time. Until someone confronts a violent situation with someone with a mental illness its easy to not take it seriously.
