China Nose Evacuation Order Rescinded

Monday, August 18, 2014 @ 4:03 PM

Houston, B.C. – The Regional District of Bulkley-Nechako has rescinded an evacuation order that was put in place due to the China Nose fire.

District Chair Bill Miller says they have also rescinded the alert area they had in place yesterday.

"Overnight crews did really well. They got some significant guarding in around the fire and this rain today has certainly helped things out."

Miller says this means they have also closed their reception centres in both Burns Lake and Houston and notes they'll be getting in touch with people that registered to let them know they can go back into their homes.

He says the evacuation order has been reduced to an alert and says this now affects just 19 homes.

"This is a really big relief. It was too close for comfort for lots of us. We are certainly a lot more optimistic than we were on Thursday."
