Quesnel, B.C. – There's a scam making the rounds in Quesnel.
According to the city an individual is identifying himself as a city employee and asking citizens to inspect their furnace and then following that up by asking for payment after the inspection is complete.
The city says this is a scam noting they do not inspect furnaces or request immediate payment for work done at any location.
One person was affected by the scam yesterday and the city asks other victims to call the Quesnel RCMP at 250-992-9211.
"Our number one concern is security of our residents and we want to inform residents on how to identify a city employee," says City Manager Byron Johnson.
He says you'll know it's a city employee because they'll be driving an official city vehicle and carrying an official city business card and/or will have a letter stating their business on official city letterhead.
Quesnel RCMP Constable Krista Vrolyk describes the male suspect as a 35-40 year old caucasian male with dark, possibly tanned skin and dark hair.
She also says he was carrying a bright red hand bag.

Maybe the question that needs to be asked is, who would let anybody in their house to do an unsolicited ‘furnace inspection’?
Pretty simple for scammers to come up with these schemes when there are simple ppl to target. Common sense ppl common sense.
Johnny yer right, it’s called naivety similar to all them there bear huggers in the lower mainland who don’t think there’s any bears in BC.
