Baggage Screening Upgrades at YXS

Tuesday, August 19, 2014 @ 10:43 AM

Prince George, B.C. – There are some temporary changes in store for users of the Prince George Airport.

Starting this Thursday construction upgrades will be made to its baggage screening system.

The work will be done by the Canadian Air Transport Authority (CATSA), who will also be footing the bill.

Marketing and communications manager Lindsay Cotter says a temporary baggage screening machine will be placed in the Internationals Area of the airport.

"Upon arrival, passengers need to check in with their airline. Those traveling with bags have to go to the Internationals Area for baggage screening, make their way through pre-board screening and into the Boarding Lounge to catch their flight."

Cotter says construction was bumped up so it could be complete in time for the 2015 Canada Winter Games.

"CATSA is upgrading baggage systems throughout the country as a number of the infrastructure is aging. Prince George was slated to get the revamp later on in time however we asked to have the work done before the games start and they accepted our request."

She says the work will be complete by late October.

Seems like another inconvenience to us residents just to appease a bunch of people who will show up for a couple of weeks in February.

Uh… It was coming anyway.

Seems excessive for domestic flights.
Are all air travelers potential terrorists?
Therefore, does the government suspect all citizens of being terrorists?

The government does not trust the tax payer general public?

So now one must always submit to interrogation without cause?

As-salamu alaykum

If the security measures are too much, you always have the choice not to fly.

So your are ok with a police state where any government agent can interrogate you or even take you into custody with out probable cause?

Yes, the new security will find your tinfoil hat. Sorry for the inconvenience.

I can only imagine the chaos with the travelers hauling their own bags from the check in counter all the way over to the international area. I’m sure I’ll being taking a few slack jawed yokels out when I head over. I can’t count the number of times I’ve ran in to some idiot who’s just standing there oblivious to his or her surroundings.

Will that high talent security still enjoy feeling everyone up?

What does this have to do with this story and the airport? Answer: Nothing. Carry on.

9/11, domestic flights!
