Delta Committed to Hotel Project
Prince George, B.C.- It has been months since there has been any work at the site of the Delta Hotel in Prince George.
Yesterday, 250News published an update on the construction, (see previous story) and this morning, Delta Hotel Corporation's spokesperson has confirmed the company is still fully involved and supportive of the project.
In an email to 250News , Amalia Kyriacou writes:
"Delta is very much committed to the new Delta Prince George project and we are eagerly anticipating the hotel’s opening next year.
We understand from the owners that plans for the other properties, which are part of this development, have not yet been finalized. As the overall site plans impact the hotel, we are waiting to receive the final designs before proceeding to the next phase.
We are doing everything we can to help and support the owners to deliver on the original hotel plans for what we expect will be the leading four-star, full-service hotel from opening day forward."
The project has been idle since March of this year, and developer Rod McLeod says he is hopeful construction can resume before the end of September.

Rod must love winter construction, not too smart
Are there still monies owed to contractors and/or suppliers? Is it true that liens have been placed on the site?
In my experience, reputable corporations
(I assume that Delta Hotels are) try to avoid being associated with any such action,
lest their reputation be tainted.
Rumours abound.
metalman.
We should have some answers when they continue construction in September.
“Rod must love winter construction, not too smart”
Says He spoke from his computer chair without knowing how, who, or why these decisions are made….. not to smart
Wow the positivity continues to abound! I would like to say I love downtown. Whether it’s cimos for Sangrias and ribs, the oyster bar for mussels and innis and gunn beer or the twisted cork for a nice cheese platter we live in a great place.
If you look at the trend downton over the last 10 years anyone saying it sucks is stuck in the 90s.
Hell yeah.
Like the design in the picture, looking forward to seeing it finished.
cupricity, your comments are nice to see. I’ve grown up in PG, and I will be the first to say the downtown core made me uncomfortable as a child. George St. was less than desirable. However, in the last few years, I feel like it’s really starting to turn around. I wish there was more city planning involved when developing our downtown and the light industrial area was somewhere else. But, we will work with what we have I suppose. I love spending my time downtown now.
Some areas of Downtown are just fine. Other area’s around 2nd, 3rd, and George St. could use some sprucing up. Having people sleeping in the streets at night (and sometime during the day) leave a little bit to be desired.
The drinking and drugging, and prostitution doesn’t help either.
So we have the good, the bad, and the ugly. Hopefully we can resolve some of these problems, and really spruce up the downtown.
I agree with Palpou. There are some bad areas. In the past week downtown I personally witnessed drug deals, prostitution and I was lucky enough to watch a couple of ladies shoot up right across from the courthouse.
30+ years later and we’re still talking about downtown revitalization. That says something right there.
I agree that the downtown’s look has improved over the past 10 years. I took a walk around 9PM in the area around city hall to library and save on foods but I still didn’t feel comfortable. It was like approaching the 300-700 E Hastings street of Vancouver. There were drunks in Victoria St and calling passerby names like Scotty.
Over the past 3 weeks whenever I have gone shopping in save on foods PG downtown there are people asking for money. None in front of superstore in Ferry street in PG during the same time. Just my 2 cents.
Who owns these other properties that are being spoke of? Seems odd to me that Delta would halt construction for 6 months to wait for other parts of the development to be finalized. Isn’t that something that should be done before the first shovel hits the dirt?
The city owns one of them! It’s called the old RCMP building.
Is the building depicted in the picture of just the Hotel or is it of the Hotel and Condos combined?
Never mind, it’s got to be just of the Hotel as those would be pretty hideous condos.
Yes all those scary downtown types. You can walk right through them and smile. They have them in London, Stockholm and Toronto too.
It’s like saying you shouldn’t go fishing because of mosquitoes!
Delta doesn’t really pay anything for the hotel, they only supply management… of course they are still behind the project…
