WestJet to Charge Baggage Fee
Monday, September 15, 2014 @ 8:21 AM
Prince George, B.C. – WestJet has announced a new $25 baggage fee.
It will count against the first checked bag on flights within Canada and between Canada and the U.S.
The airline says it will be in effect for Econo fare flights booked on or after today, for travel on or after October 29.
WestJet says the fee is to ensure they keep fares as low as possible.

If they start charging fees for things like baggage, the fares aren’t exactly low anymore, are they?
I look forward to the idiots who will try and bring everything on the planes in their carry-ons, even worse than now.
Turning into another Air Canada , I for one will be flying out of Bellingham
It would be nice if they enforced the current carry on size rules instead of just making the announcement and allowing people to carry on stuff that is so obviously over sized.
Was only a matter of time.
Too funny. I just got an email from them telling me about the “exciting changes coming this fall”. Nearly as exciting as when they reduced the leg room and added the crappy Dash 8s to the fleet.
Pee on my head and call it rain.
I guess they know that AC is not, nor ever will be a credible alternative so they have no one to lose business to. I for one will be traveling with Carry On only from now on!
What are the bets that there will not be any corresponding decrease in their fares?
Fares low.. Fees high.. Buyer beware
Westjet stock is way up this morning.
I was on an international flight and the amount of baggage that people were carry on was three or four bags and the sizes were huge. Smart though as because of the amount that people were trying to take on, the airline started calling for people to check in their baggage for free.
Taxes low…..fees high….voter beware
I only fly Air Canada & get flights for free using Aeroplan points. I did fly Westjet once and didn’t like it and they are Air Miles which is a terrible program.
Yeah, that makes sense Westjet, charge people more money to fly to keep fares as low as possible. Rocket scientists you are.
What’s next, a $50 user fee to use the steps to enter the plane? How about a $5 fee to hear the flights announced? After all we must keep the cost of fares down.
A fee to use the bathroom?
