Doherty Addresses Departure
Prince George, B.C. – Todd Doherty , who until recently was the Director of Revenue Generation for the 2015 Canada Winter Games, has issued a statement about his departure from that post.
“It was becoming apparent my future aspirations were becoming a distraction to the Canada Winter Games team which isn’t fair” says Doherty in the prepared statement.
He said his future aspirations were “detracting from the amazing work the team was doing.”
Earlier today, 2015 Games CEO Stu Ballantyne expressed confidence that the Games were in good financial shape, and Doherty’s statement supports that claim “I am confident that I’ve left the Winter Games in a position to realize its financial goals in very short order. The financial goal was more than 98% fulfilled with more announcements to be made shortly. I believe the Games will surpass their financial target. It is with a heavy heart that I say today I am no longer part of team 2015.”
Although not spelling out his plans, Doherty’s statement says he plans “to keep the community apprised of his future plans, as they develop.”

Hmmmmm. Much more to this story than whats been indicated so far. No doubt we will be hearing more.
I’m guessing he wants to focus his effort on becoming an MP, as he’s alluded to before.

How about maybe he knows there isn’t going to be enough money to pay for the games and is bailing before the world finds out, and if he is gone he can’t be blamed???

LOL. bcracer If your theory were correct, why would the games state they are 98% funded. We all know this is a last minute town for purchasing or fundraising so I suspect this will be a very successful games. But time will tell and maybe this is as you stated “sound as good as any theory” or maybe it is a bad theory based on what we have been told.
welll He’s done a fantastic job so far so we should credit him for that.
Todd is a great guy and would do well in politics, or anything he wants to do. Good luck Todd!
FYI
There is going to be a nomination meeting in each Federal riding within the next six months, because of the Federal election next fall. Each party must select a representative at that time. Clearly those wishing to throw their name in the hat to run in that race must declare soon. I know of three already and it looks like Todd is the fourth. I wonder if he was asked to leave or did he leave of his own volition?
Stillsmokin I think If Shari Green had something to do with Todd’s departure. It would be a stupid move. Especially it is due to the conservative nomination and here is why:
First it would be in violation of her office as Mayor and as an officer of the city. This would be a decision of the Canada Game, but they are saying he left of his own free will.
I am sure in some way it would be in violation of the elections act. Possibly the Charter of rights.
Finally he is the fund raiser for the games. It would put every citizen in Prince George, at risk of paying for more taxes to replace the revenue he would have raised for the games had he not left. After all he was at 98%. Finally if she did it would be smart for her team to leave him alone or he might go public.
Time will tell but I doubt she or her team would do that.
ohhh nooo he’s not gonna bad mouth her.. It’s political sucide. best to just walk away from a volatile situation. It’s all internal. Just remember, they may both be running against each other in the next election and it wouldn’t do either any good to be broadcasting the internal conflict. Green already has a rep and will follow her wherever she goes. Todd has behind his belt the fantastic job he’s accomplished so far

why would winter games be any different…..they say whatever will keep us quiet until it is over and the hand us the bill…too late then…we will be stuck.
my theory anyways…
