Cowboy Pub Application Put on Hold Till Next Week

Monday, September 29, 2014 @ 7:42 PM

Prince George, B.C.- The Cowboy Ranch Pub’s application for support from Council on its  expansion plans  has been put on hold for another week.

The pub on Queensway is  licensed for 80 seats, but would to increase that to  268, and increase its hours of operations  to  a 2 a.m. closing  7 days a week.

A report from staff says the plan is not acceptable, that it would have negative impacts on the people who live in the neighbourhood. Staff say the proposal  does not support the City of Prince George Liquor Licensing Policy.

But the whole hearing was adjourned  until next Monday as the applicant arrived  with  a new set of documents  to support his application.  Councilors said they simply did not have enough time to review the inch thick paperwork, and  would like to have the time to  do their homework and review the material before being called upon to make a decision on  whether or not  to support the application.

The matter has been put over until next Monday at 7 p.m. when the matter will be brought back  before council.

Who is “the applicant”?
Do we have a name?
If so, isn’t it relevant?

Brock Gable is the owner and the likely applicant………

Hmmm.
Maybe if council delays long enough they can put it off until after the election?

Brock has been in the hospitality business for 20+ years and knows how to manage a pub properly. Most restaurants are in the 200-300 seat range – Moxies (with residential behind them) is about 300 seats, Earls (again with residential zoning behind and beside) about 200 seats, Boston pizza about 250 seats. Here we have a local citizen willing to invest in a worn out building and council is dragging their feet.

While I am not one who typically believes anything I am told… council says they “would like to have the time to do their homework and review the material”. \This just makes sense. I would rather a delayed decision that was informed.

choicewindmill….there is a difference between a restaurant that closes earlier than 2 am and a pub/club that closes at 2am. That being said, I am totally for the Cowboy Ranch and am very excited for the change if it comes. As far as I am concerned the location is fantastic, however I do not live in the area. It would definitely be a plus if the applicant had the blessings of the residents close by. The fact is, they closed the beer store there I assume with this change in mind. Too many beer stores in this city, not enough social clubs…especially country styled. I for one will not give my money to any Shooters group in PG. Keep up those chicken wings guys they are amazing!
