Prince George, B.C.-  The landscape along River Road is changing.

Yesterday, demolition crews were on site  tearing down the drying kilns at Winton Global.

Recently, the  assets on that site  were auctioned off, and a third party is now decommissioning the  site.

Winton Global closed  the site  in early 2008, but  it would be  more than three years later before  the company would announce it would not resume operations at the facility. The site was then  offered for sale.

Winton Global’s Homes Division remains  operational.

I heard it was a gas pipeline company that bought the property? In the past word had it that Excel was going to build a new shop on that location, but that was a few years ago now.

There should be caveats required of anyone building / developing in this area to acknowledge that the land is an active flood plain and that the general public’s dollars and resources will NOT be used to mitigate losses or difficulties regarding flooding on private land. The debacle of the past few decades of private business buying the land cheap and then lobbying the various levels of government for special protection from the damages of flooding rivers is ludicrous.

Who ever bought the property, if it is sold, should be forced to clean up the eyesore along the river. If Sinclar still owns the property, same but with a huge fine for allowing the state of disrepair/safety concern.
