Prince George, B.C. – After a 35 year career as a school principal and teacher in School District 57, Tony Cable has decided to seek a seat at the School Board table.

He says with his experience he’ll be able to ask “the right questions” and takes a balanced approach when asked about the need for school funding.

“We should be lobbying for more funding for education but we also have to balance it off with all the other needs of society and the taxpayers.”

He says another concern he’d like to focus on is bullying noting that “when students feel safe and comfortable at schools they’re better able to learn.”

Cable says after the recent labour dispute mending fences is also a top priority.

“My knowledge of teachers is that they really do have a love of teaching and working with kids in the classrooms. So I think the main job is to continue supporting our teachers and support staff.”

Going into his sixth year of retirement, Cable says he’s stayed busy working for Elections BC as an Electoral Officer and by supervising practicum students at UNBC.

Mr. Cable’s position statements quoted above = banalities that say nothing much at all.

Mr Cable was also the principal of my son’s school, had the entire school active in fun activities before school, during breaks and after school as well. Academically, many students went on to be honour roll leaders at the local high school after completing elementary school during his time. I sat on the Parents Advisory Committee and saw Tony in action. Students first! And he had the respect of his teachers, support staff and parents.

I have known Tony for many years. Our children went to school together, and my youngest had him as Principal. He always had the respect of the teachers (many of whom I knew) and the parents.

Tony Cable is an outstanding individual. I have always thought of him as a man with integrity. What is not mentioned here is the countless hours of volunteer work that he (and his wife) have given to this community – PG Lacrosse to name just one, for no other reason than “it is the right thing to do”.
