Hoping everyone has a safe and enjoyable weekend!
New building being put up…..next to Carrier’s head office , hiway 97 S. 2 big bay doors and offices in the old superior fencing lot…..Anyone know anything?…Is this the new Swiss Chalet they have been promising us….lol
I was told yesterday that it is Hertz rentals. Not sure if that is the domestic car rentals or equipment and tools.
I really wish the police would start enforcing the law around cell phone users while driving their vehicles winter is coming.
Red pickup truck headed towards Foothills, driving without stopping through 4 way stop intersection of West Austin Road and South Kelly Road – male driver with cellphone glued to left ear, oblivious of another vehicle which was legally entering the intersection after having stopped.
So they say the price of fuel is going down – still waiting for gas stations ( Esso/Petrocan/Husky) to beat Costco’s prices and take the lead. Local stations remind me of a flock of geese with Costco as the leader.
Northern Health is a gong show! A child is possibly exposed to HIV and all they can say is sorry?
“Dr. Allison says Northern Health is working with the family and the staff “Having been made aware of the event, we deeply regret the event and we apologize for the incident, the unfortunate accident with that child”.
Are you kidding me? What about the child’s rights to safe health care? What about everyone’s rights to save health care? Are HIV positive nurses giving you your flu shot? GONG!
NoWay: I was thinking the exact same thing. Some major flaws in the system. Seems this child doesnt get the same rights as the nurse. Crazy!
Northern Health Chief Medical Health Officer, Dr. Sandra Allison… says Northern Health cannot prevent the employee from working with patients “The organization cannot discriminate against people based on their blood borne pathogen status including HIV and Hepatitis B, it is a human right to be able to continue to work.”
—————————————————
The employee involved could have been assigned duties which would not involve her being in physical contact with patients, in my opinion. When she is free from any transmittable blood pathogens she can resume her former duties. I call it a desk job.
The prime motto of healthcare is Do No Harm! Nurses understand that.
Assigning an employee to another temporary duty is not discrimination but it is managing the issue so that everyone is safe, including patients.
I think health care workers who directly works with patient should have to disclose it to the patient.
This is unbelievable in this day and age the right to work trumps the health of an innocent 6 year old girl. This PC is getting nuts.
I hope the family sues, and sues big time whatever bureaucratic entity allowed this young girls life to be at risk. This was totally preventable.
I am sure if I was HIV I have to disclose that information to my dentist for example. Why did the nurse not disclose. PC trumps a little girl.
Northern health is undertaking a review, a little late don’t you think Dr. Allison, a little late. How come that nurse would have let other people be at risk? Why would Northern Health let innocent people be at risk?
So folks you and family are at risk because of PC policies of Northern Health.
Carpenter
I think health care workers who directly works with patient should have to disclose it to the patient.
I agree with you Carpenter. At least than we would have the “RIGHT” to refuse.
“The organization cannot discriminate against people based on their blood borne pathogen status including HIV and Hepatitis B, it is a human right to be able to continue to work.”
You have got to be joking, Dr. Allison, come on!
However infinitesimal the chances are of the nurse passing along his/her affliction to a patient, and setting aside the potential for tragedy for a moment, does this policy not leave Northern Health open to liability claims? Isn’t the first duty of your institution to protect itself against liability?
Further, does the general public have any “rights” such as disclosure of the fact that your health care worker has a communicable disease?
As stated already, in this case, the P.C. movement has gone too far.

that all decisions made by administration are for the betterment of the City as a whole, and not just for administration, or special interest groups.
Therein lies the problem. Administration should not make any decisions in any instant other then under the direction of council . Council makes the decision and its up to management to fulfill those decision.
In our democracy council should be guided by what the taxpayer needs are and will set the priorities as how to precede and make the funding available. It is up to administration to complete the projects as requested by Council
So why do we have all these ethical codes and rules to guide council and management? I guess its because there is a misunderstanding on how democracy should function and what the duties of council or management are.
Cheers
Sorry wrong page

It’s unfortunate to read the comments and to see that some individuals are grossly misinformed; basing their decision on who to vote for on inaccurate information. I suggest attending the public forums and really listening. Better yet, talk to both candidates in person should you have comments or concerns; this is why they have campaign offices.
This vision of Don Zurowski for growing the city to 100,000 is ambitious and this ambition is exactly what this community needs to flourish. We as the citizens of Prince George have increasingly become more and more negative over the years and it takes all of us to turn it around.
Don Zurowski will be receiving my vote in this upcoming election
Good morning everyone looks like another great day. Bit blustery in Abby this morning temp at 13 c. Just wanted to, share with you that the air is sweet and the farmers have cut their last silage for the year. Don’t know how the mushroom harvest is coming but then ism just a drop in the bucket.
Just wanted to let you know there is lots of housing available at a good price. You would be able to sell your home in George and probably make a few bucks on the deal. We did downsize but then at our age who needs 2200 sq ft to live. A town home is a good alternative.
In Chilliwack prices run much the same as George so it’s a good alternative.
And don’t forget, “keep right except to pass”.
Cheers
If Abbotsford has a site (such as this one) would you please let me know so that I can post how great living in Prince George is? Let’s be honest, except for a few entirely man-made problems and therefore capable of being corrected by man – we have not that much to complain about!
Last time we went to Van we almost ran out of gas during the snail’s pace stop and go traffic jams! Leaving town another nightmare, as there were more traffic jams and detours! Only the car’s GPS saved the day because it managed to get us back on track again.
Still, we are glad that for you living in Abby is such a great experience!
Just read about a Russian container ship carrying diesel and bunker fuel adrift off the coast of Haida Gwaii with storm warnings and heavy seas predicted. If the worst happens, it won’t do Northern Gateway any good.
Retired 02, for a guy who just loves Chilliwack you sure spend a lot of time on 250 news. Curious, when did you move there? Prince George use to be the crime capital of B.C. Wasn’t Chilliwack just labeled that? Something to thing about.
Retired 02 must be trying to pump and dump his condo. Along with the manditory umbrella and Gortex jacket for half the time, the year round wardrobe in Abbotsford includes earplugs and a bulletproof vest now the gang wars are on again.
In the Chilliwack/Abbotsford corridor the number one fashion accessory is a noseplug thanks to manure and mushrooms, followed closely by a medical mask because of the religious wackos who do not vaccinate their kids.
No, no, we live in Abby. Don’t worry about crime. George is still No4. We lived in George for over 30 years so we like to keep in touch. And I’m retired so I like some fun and Friday For for All is it. I know you would love Abby. Its “City In The Country” is our slogan. Have a great day.
Cheers
Is retired02 trying to convince everyone how great ‘Abby’ is, or trying to convince himself? Something to ponder.
“City In The Country” is our slogan….I guess that is better than “Come for the Measles; Stay for the Mumps and Whooping Cough!” :)
One of the best editorials I’ve read in a while..
Dutch Bikers In Iraq
Hey Prince George our daughter drives out from Kitsolina to Abby in less then an hour on the weekend. But then if I recall correctly last weeks Free for all was all about bad drivers in George so that’s some thing to ponder. JB you are always full of it go kiss Christy. “keep right except when passing”
Cheers
I haven’t been sick one single day, not even a sniffle, since the day I moved way from PG three years ago. Better air and no fluoride in the water? Something to ponder.
We live (since 1973) in PG outside of the bowl so we have had no real bad problems with air problems. We are on city water. Concerning the other issue my IBS improves a lot when I spend a month or two away from PG in one of the many cities where they do not medicate the tap water. I am thinking of Kelowna, where I spent almost two months at the local cancer clinic receiving External Beam Radiation therapy.
After returning to PG my IBS returned again in full force and I embarked on a mission to receive the same freedom of choice I enjoyed in Kelowna. A simple request, but it has gotten very complicated.
Have a great day!
Saw recent survey that put Abby on the bottom of the list for places to live.
It would be interesting to take a quick poll to see how many people who post on O250 no longer live in PG. I’d hazard a guess that it’s more than what one would initially think.
I have to say, my health has also improved noticeably since leaving. There is no doubt in my mind that it is a result of escaping the PG air shed. I used to notice it when I lived there as well. I’d go away for a week or two and feel great. I’d come back and the ole “PG cold” starts up again. It really hit home when I came back for a visit a couple of years ago and everything went haywire, LOL.
Sometimes when you live with something for so many years it starts to feel normal.
I feel sorry for that 6 year old girl for all the testing she will have to endure just for a negligent pc drven bureaucracy. Hey all you northern health bearucrates do you sleep well at night? Just think of the hell that little girl and her family are in right now.
NMG, the air shed has improved a lot, but there is still room for improvement! It has cost a lot (many tens of millions) to improve the quality of the air, whereas the other issue costs nothing to resolve, in fact I heard that it would save the city about 100 thousand a year!
Not to mention the improvement of the health of the many I talked to who have similar problems!
Costco Abbotsford fuel price $108.9 .
Anyone seen that article THINK MEDIATION LAWYER URGES.. Any thoughts?? It;s online too besides in today’s Citizen. Makes me laugh. I’ve seen her in action destroying families…no thought of mediation. Just fabricates things to prolong the process, all in the name of the almighty dollar. She sees a case and figures a lot of money involved, she will drag it out for years. I’ve seen lawyers with ethics but this one has no conscience at all.. My thoughts..and I have evidence to back up my thoughts
I have met with university officials in UFV in Abbotsford and the dean of university told me that the university is expanding because of growing number of enrollments there. Last year they opened the new undergraduate program that we discussed there as a possible degree and they were quick to approve the program and start it. I have discussed the same program here in PG and not much interest despite the need expressed publicly. More red tapes and barriers here.
Few of the professors that I met communicated on a daily basis from Vancouver region and the traffic is not so good and I was stuck in traffic traveling between Vancouver and Abby both times. It reminded me of PG with better air quality, better winter, growing but with worse gang problem than PG and Surrey.
PG: “Concerning the other issue my IBS improves a lot when I spend a month or two away from PG in one of the many cities where they do not medicate the tap water. ”
Nice anecdote, but it’s got nothing to do with the tap water.
But let’s just say hypothetically for a minute you’re right. Public health measures like this cater to the masses. The benefit is for the overwhelming majority, not for the one in a million that might be affected. For those, I would just say, buy bottled water.
And my other question to you, PG, is why do you seek to stop a public health measure which has been scientifically proven to be effective (both from a cost and health perspective) and supported by the world’s major health organizations?
“Positivemind” don’t feel bad for me for thinking Don’s population growth plans will never fly. Further don’t think that low population growth is negative thinking. We did lots of work a few years back with “Smartgrowth”and we discovered what will work and how we can get there. Solutions like grow our tax base by population growth beyond any reasonable expectation without details is blind hope.
Prince George is awesome because we are stable. Growth is good but rapid growth has it own share of problems. Slow and steady wins the race ;). Have a good Friday.
You are picking on a person who is completely different from you! I believe in ethics and human rights, in the rights of an individual to choose what kind of medication one accepts and which medication one refuses.
These rights are subscribed to be the Canadian Medical Association Code of Ethics.
There are plenty of dental hygiene choices for the public. It starts with choosing the right toothpaste and to choose brushing and flossing.
There is much more!
But I am wasting my time and effort on you! I’ll go and take a shower with bottled water!
Im against floride for the simple reason that you don’t need it in this form and it costs us money and the majority of the province does not do it.
It is a want by some sold as a need.
Lol… PG vs Abbotsford is like arguing about what’s better: poked in the eye with a stick or a good, hard kick in the junk.
Remember, it is not all about you, PG. Since you can’t debate the science, you turn to the ‘ethics’ and ‘choice’ arguments which aren’t relevant to this.
Fluoride exists naturally in virtually every water supply, you have no ‘choice’ on that. The only question is whether people receive it at the optimal level to prevent tooth decay.
“Growth is good but rapid growth has it own share of problems”
========================
I would agree with this! IMHO, sustainable, manageable growth is far better than what Zurokwsi is talking about.
Fluoride should not be added for two reasons.
1. Lack of informed consent
2.What they are injecting is an industrial grade product that would not be allowed in any medications sold in pharmacies in the province so why allow it in our water.
Has this ever been a great Friday. No whining about George drivers. “Keep right except to pass”.
Cheers
Your wrong again seamut, it was next to George. I thought all your knowledge was about bad Drivers. “keep right except to pass”.
Cheers
I apologize retired Abby is a better place to live than PG, Abby ranked 147, PG 148.
I have lived all over BC and both ends of this country and have travelled most areas on the world except Asia, well I like PG.
Police sure are mum on their Slocan shooting. Kind of makes a person go ummm.
Retired02
I’m doubting you ever lived in PG
How many people that live or lived here call it “George”? Only people from away!
For us, you live beyond Hope.
