Prince George, B.C. – The Remembrance Day Service will start at the Civic Centre at 9:15 this morning, the ceremony at the Cenotaph at 9:45.
Premier Christy Clark offers this message on this solemn day:
“This Remembrance Day, we have much to reflect upon: the 100th anniversary of the First World War, and 75 years since the outbreak of the Second; the conclusion of Canada’s combat mission in Afghanistan; the deployment of Canadian soldiers in the Middle East; and the recent killings of Corporal Nathan Cirillo and Warrant Officer Patrice Vincent.
“We also mourn the death of Private Steven Allen of Victoria, who died far too soon while training to serve his country.
“All these events remind us of something we must not take for granted: the willingness of our best and bravest to put their lives at risk so that we can sleep safely each night.
“To all those who serve, and have served, this country: thank you. We will never forget.”
– Christy Clark
Prince George Peace River MP Bob Zimmer has sent along this message:
On Remembrance Day, Canadians come together to honour our fellow countrymen and women who have sacrificed for the sake of our freedom and way of life. This year, Remembrance Day will also mark a violent act that shocked a nation.
The terrorist attack on Parliament Hill less than a month ago shook the entire country, where one soldier was murdered before the gunman attacked the symbol of our democracy.
Corporal Nathan Cirillo’s murder in the shadow of our Canada’s War Memorial is an all too clear reminder that the price of freedom is eternal vigilance.
The murders of Corporal Cirillo and Warrant Officer Patrice Vincent, who was targeted by a radical Islamic extremist in Quebec, were killed because they chose to serve our country. They wore the uniform, just like millions of Canadians have done since our nation was founded. The terrorists targeted the uniforms of our servicemen and women; clear symbols of the principles we stand for, and what Canadians have fought for throughout our history.
This November 11, I will be remembering and saying thank you in Prince George.
-Bob Zimmer

For all those who in uniform who defend our freedom or provide a safer place to live. To those who have died regardless of how or why is a loss of one defending us in some form or another. To the families of these men and woman, to parents, children, and their relatives and friends; may pride in their efforts, sacrifices and courage help to find some peace in your hearts. Respectfully, it is appreciated.
