McConnachie’s Work Ethic Comes To Council
Prince George, B.C. – One of the newcomers to Prince George City Council is Terri McConnachie, who garnered enough votes to finish seventh in a field of twenty-five councilor candidates.
McConnachie, who gained a reputation for no holds barred hard work in her twenty years with the Prince George Exhibition, says “I was gobsmacked at being elected, and then I was so appreciative and humbled and excited, all at the same time.” Asked what she thinks pushed her over the top with voters she says “perhaps it could be the reputation that I’ve worked hard to earn, and the ability to work co-operatively with hundreds if not thousands of people from all different walks of life and backgrounds to pull off something great. “I can’t wait to do that at the council table with my new councilors and Mayor Hall to do it for Prince George.”
At the top of her list for council priorities, McConnachie says “I think one of the very first things that is going to have to happen is prioritizing our infrastructure needs. In addition to that is getting regular maintenance programs back on track. There’s no point in taking two steps forward and then ten steps back and ending up where we are presently. I think if we focus on managing tax dollars for the citizens that live here now to deal with quality of life issues a natural consequence will be that those professionals and their families will want to move here. They’re going to find out what we already know, Prince George is an amazing city to live and work in and there’s room for more.”
Regarding the new mayor, she says “he’s going to be spectacular and I so look forward to working with him. I think his leadership style is going to take council in a new direction, that it’s going to be nothing but positives for Prince George.”

I would like to see Safe healthy neighbourhoods focused on . IN this City we need to stop focusing on social issues and try to work to get our City back.
Can’t disagree with her statements. It certainly is time that we got into long term maintenance planning, for infrastructure, which includes the Four Seasons Pool, Elks Centre, and determine what is needed to keep the Coliseum going. Keep our park up to snuff, and clean up the whole City, not just the downtown core.
This Council and Administration has its work cut out for it, however people have been waiting for a long time to see some level headed, forward thinking people running this City. Prince George is more than a playground for vested interest groups.
We really need to look at all the costs associated with Seniors, and low income people living in this City. Although not mentioned as an issue during the election, this is a huge problem in Prince George. We have many Seniors who can no longer afford to pay all this associated costs of living in Prince George. Anyone on a fixed income is the victim of increases in costs and services, and they have no way to increase their income.
Another thing not mentioned is the number of people who leave this town as soon as they retire. This is a huge problem and we need to find out why. They seem to go to the Island, Kelowna, Kamloops, etc; What can we do to keep them here?? Also many young people leave the City in search of meaningful work.
So its not all about attracting people to Prince George its also about keeping them here.
Terry, you’ve got integrity, you’ll do well.
I just want to know if Terry’s integrity will outweigh her allegiance to CUPE and her husband as a CUPE National employee. Can’t help but feel this decision in my pocket book.
Costs associated with Seniors; I was in the Gateway Seniors Complex on Nov.11th and could not believe the number of pictures of the war vets living in there, as far as costs go for Seniors I think that says it all. I also think senior housing should be for seniors and not used to house hard to place people. Our seniors need to be treated with respect and kept safe.
We dont leave PG because we dont like what happening we leave PG because of the weather. It get dam cold as we get older. So if you can change the weather Pal I’m in.
cheers
Haha….Retired 02. The next election I am going to run, and my campaign slogan will be “Lets Get PG Warmer”. Because, “I’m the guy to get PG’s average temp up 10 degrees”. (small wave of magic wand)
Digitus, your funny. Thanks for the chuckle….
Digitus, that is the best line of the last several days. I would vote for you!
onlymyopinion- her husband is an ex-CUPE outside worker for the city before becoming a CUPE national rep.
