Fatal Crash Closes 97 North
Prince George, B.C. – One person is dead following a head on crash involving a logging truck and a car near Whiskers Point north of Prince George.
Highway 97 is closed in both directions . There is no estimated time of reopening, and no detour available.
There is a second commercial vehicle incident just north of the fatal crash, but there is no indication at this time of serious injuries
North District Staff Sergeant Pat McTiernan says Highway 16 east is closed 49 km east of the Junction at Tete Jaune Cache because of a vehicle incident involving a commercial vehicle and two other vehicles. There is no word yet on extent of injuries. Again, there is no estimated time of reopening and no detour available.
“Drivers have to realize that although the roads look clear, this is not July, it is December” says Staff Sergeant McTiernan. “We are hearing of multiple instances where people are sliding off the road into the ditch, and what motorists have to realize is, that even though the air temperature may be plus 8, the ground is still frozen and the temperature of the roadway may be minus 5. So when you have that warm, damp air over a frozen surface, you will get black ice.”
The message is to slow down and drive for the conditions.

Please don’t assess blame when there are deaths involved, Sergeant McTiernan. Caution people by all means, but don’t don’t infer that people caused death, their own or those of others without full proof. You should know better. Sometimes things are as simple as they seem and other times they’re not. Please think of the people these folks leave behind.
