New Police Commander Targets Violent Crime

Tuesday, December 9, 2014 @ 1:30 PM

brown-150x150Prince George, B.C. – The new commanding officer at the Prince George RCMP detachment, Superintendent  Warren Brown, says combating violent crime is his number one priority.

Superintendent Brown, who moved from similar duties in Williams Lake to take over his new command December 1st, spoke briefly to Mayor Lyn Hall, councilors Murry Krause and Garth Frizzell and the local news media this morning.

Supt. Brown says Prince George is battling a  perception problem  “I think the perception of crime here is a little bit distorted in that we have the Maclean’s Magazine articles as well as what the crime severity reports. However we are a hub community for services and that brings in the influx of a lot of people that are chronic users of the system, including the criminal justice system, perhaps the health system and other services provided.”

Superintendent Brown  plans to stay the course laid by  his predecessor, Eric Stubbs, “because of the influx of folks who come here,  we have some violent crimes because of gangs and their response to populations as large as ours here.   So all I have to say as the new commander here, I hope to carry on with the intentions of our previous commander. We have six priorities here in our detachment in no specific order. However, usually what meets the front page is the violent crime here so that certainly is our priority to ensure that the good folks in our community can live safely and enjoy such a robust community that’s built with prosperous recreation, business, sports and everything else that Prince George has to offer.”

He  is stepping forward as the one who  bares  the responsibility for providing secure policing in the city. “The buck stops with me at the detachment here. I am accountable not only to our City folks here but our stakeholders and to you (media) as well. I hope to provide a very transparent policing service, we are accountable to the general public here and we’ll certainly endeavour to carry on with the good work that the men and women have done here in the past.”

I am wondering why we don’t get immediate news anymore. How long to I have to wait to know why the power is out in the Hart??

Sunny day 2. You can check the hydro website all your looking for is there.

You’re

Sunnyday 2: And maybe quickly come to the conclusion prior to that, that the winds that are blowing, probably have something to do with it.

There’s a whack of outages in PG, including the Hart. That’s a pretty violent wind out there so I guess we’re somewhat on topic. :)

“He is stepping forward as the one who bares” versus “He is stepping forward as the one who bears” … personally I am more comfortable with the second option but I will try to be open minded ;)

Congrats, Anotherside, your the only one ontopicofit.

Looks like Bull from Night Court :)

Acrider, I can’t stop laughing.
But, I hope this fellow sticks around. His history is good.

do you think this guy will bring warwick and the ert up on charges?

if not, then he is just another crooked cop.

release the blackberry records, calls, and texts!

That is pretty harsh….

He is pretty new here, lets give him a chance and see what he can come up with that will improve things.

I think that this guy will do a good job. Time will tell, however the gangs, druggies, etc;, had better be on their toes, because things just got a little tighter in this community.

Shoot one or two of the gang leaders who carry guns and the rest will be packing to a much safer town. PG also has lots of prisons and it imports criminals from other towns when releasing them to PG. Release the prisoners to another town when they have finished their sentence instead of letting them stay in PG, or send them to where they were arrested for their crime a few weeks before their final release.

“do you think this guy will bring warwick and the ert up on charges?”

Not a chance of a proverbial snow ball in He__! He would NEVER criticize his predecessor’s actions!!

A better question might be “In similar circumstances, would he try to resolve the situation without ERT involvement??”

Let’s see where he leans when it comes to Veterans & PTSD? You might find it is inbred to call ERT no matter what?

a_britishcolumbian…pretty close….I for one …Never trust em….

I truly wish him luck, but I’m afraid his mission to reduce violent crime (or any other for that matter) is a waste of time if the courts don’t get onside. If the hoods are in jail they can’t commit…

who are the RCMPs stakeholders?
