Crash Reduces 97

Thursday, December 11, 2014 @ 11:18 AM

Prince George, B.C.- Highway 97 is down to single lane alternating  traffic about 12 kms north of Hixon because of a vehicle incident.RCMP say a pick up truck and van  were involved in a crash.  Two people taken to hospital.

The road  is reduced to single land alternating traffic  in order  to allow tow trucks  some room to  remove the vehicles.

RCMP  report there have  been several   reports of vehicles  sliding off the road  because of black  ice conditions.  RCMP  say they expect to hear of more  incidents and ask the public to slow down.

Need to get some radar back on the roads.

People were going way too fast this morning. I was only 2 minutes ahead of that accident. i also noticed there was no sand on the roads and it rained all last night. The sand trucks that maintain this supposed class a highway…they were sitting in the sand pit having a visit while all this happened

Does not appear that the supposedly highway upgrade on Hwy 16 + 97 to class “A” highways have had any positive improvements on the safety of these two highways from last year.

They must have got at’er after that. I came through there a couple of hours later and it was all just wet and dirty.
It seems though, that it often takes an accident to get the lead out.

What ever the conditions, what ever the level of maintenance, there would be fewer motor vehicle incidents if people drove their vehicles a little bit slower. Not every incident is avoidable, but they are all made worse, the faster the vehicles are traveling.
metalman.

This should get the “Arm chair quarterbacks” going?

Speed is not necesarily the problem…On black ice, no sudden moves IE braking or acceleration..leave lots of room between you and the person you are following, try and drive slightly to the right of the main traveled portion.

Be proactive…all it takes is one Nervous Nellie to brake when you least expect it!

I thought HWY97 was already a Class ‘A’ for several years.

Wasn’t it just HWY16 that got bumped from ‘B’ to ‘A’ last year?
