Provincial Government Losing Ground on Key Issues – Poll
Prince George, B.C. – A new poll suggests BC voters are losing confidence in the provincial government’s handling of several key issues.
In the bi-annual Insights West online survey, Victoria has lost ground on eight of ten key issues.
The government’s strongest endorsements came in dealing with crime (36%, -5 since May) and the economy and jobs (35%, -5).
On the flip side just 28% (-8) think the government is doing a good job handling energy, pipelines and liquefied natural gas, health care (27%) and the shortage of skilled workers (25%).
The government performed weakest when it comes to government accountability (19%) and housing, poverty and homeslessness (17%).
When it comes to BC’s political parties the poll has the NDP in the lead (40%, plus 1 since April), followed by the Liberals (36%, -2) the BC Greens (14%, unchanged) and the BC Conservative Party (8%).
However the poll also suggests the Liberals are still more popular with northern voters (41% to 36%) than the NDP.
“I think most of it has to do with the way they (Liberals) deal with energy and even though we have a situation where the urban voters might be really mad at the Liberals because of the way they’re handling LNG or the Kinder Morgan issue – we still see a lot of support in the north because voters see it as a way to generate jobs,” says vice-president, public affairs, Mario Canseco.
He also admits it’s way too far out from an election to draw any definitive conclusions from the survey.
“I think what we see here is the usual rebound that you have right before the middle of your own term. It’s something we consistently see happen.”

After the last election, I take pretty much all poll results with a huge grain of salt.
After the last federal and provincial election I need to take elections with a boat load of salt . The likes of Gwynn morgan case a long shadow . Some democracy . Trained seal MPs/MLAs , gerrymandering and a dumbed down electorate = idiotocracy .
As long the NDP never get back into power in BC I will be happy
Give a big round of applause for the Liberal Party who have accomplished what exactly? Oh yea, beer & wine in grocery stores, and free-trade with Sask. Whoop whoop. Meanwhile we still rank the worst in the country for child poverty. LNG is supposed to fix that I suppose.
And the NDP still haven’t figured why they lost 12 years ago, let alone most recently. What’s the definition of insanity?
What a sad province this is politically. I can’t stomach either side. This is why Scotch was invented.
The Liberals will take another hit at the polls if they think we will forget them handing our LEH allocations to the guide outfitters.
ahhh, finally remembered my log in
It still makes me giggle watching the left wing newscasters being baffled and openly displaying their disappointment on BCTV. The newscasters must have gotten a bit of a reprimand half way thru the show, because they all changed their tunes. I guess they may have been told, report the news, not make news.
In the heart of the matter, the young people wants to make a good life for themselves, and they know that in order to do that we have to have less government. They all know that NDP is a socialist government and they do not support free enterprise.
Christy Clark really has not done a heck of a lot, in my opinion. Totally blew the LNG opportunity by not being able to make a stand.
Pylot, Scotch is a good thing, it allows us to stomach what we digest…..
Oh, too many scotches, anyway, can’t agree with polls, they predicted an NDP win last time around, think I’ll have another and toast the Liverals, and boo hoo on the NDP winers…………. LOL
Famous Grouse is better than Glen Livet or Cutty Sark.
Phffft. Auchentoshen, The Dalmore or The Balvenie (Caribean Cask).. neat.
