E-Comm’s Top Ten Nuisance Calls

Tuesday, December 30, 2014 @ 9:32 AM

Prince George, B.C.- E-Comm,  the centre that handles  9-1-1 calls for most of the Province (including Prince George)  has put together a list of some of  the  non emergency calls they get.

“Our staff are trained to treat every call that comes through our centre as a valid emergency, until they determine otherwise, no matter what the circumstance,” explains E-Comm spokesperson Jody Robertson. “Even if the reason for the call seems absurd on the surface, 9-1-1 call-takers need to take time to determine exactly what’s going on and whether someone genuinely needs help. Calls about internet access and cold food are a serious drain on emergency resources.”

Over the course of the year,  E-Comm  call takers get some pretty weird calls that have no business  being on the 9-1-1 lines.

Here are the top ten nuisance calls received by E-Comm  during 2014:

  1. Wi-Fi at a local coffee shop isn’t working
  2. “What’s the fine for jay walking?”
  3. Pizza not fresh; wants a replacement slice
  4. “What’s the number for my travel agency?”
  5. Caller phoned 9-1-1 to ask for a taxi referral
  6. “Is today a stat holiday?”
  7. Food they ordered is cold
  8. Wants help finding lost glasses
  9. Home Internet is not working
  10. “What’s the date today?”

“We’re reaching out today to remind the public that 9-1-1 is a life-line, not an information line,” Robertson adds. “We hope our message that 9-1-1 call-takers cannot answer questions about how long power outages will last, when the clocks turn back, or other non-emergency questions, will help reduce these kinds of calls and keep the lines open for real emergencies.”

I thought there were fines in place for these idiots?

Society is getting dumber and dumber. Common sense? Almost non-existent!

The problem with fining and punishing these dum-dums is that it might cause someone with a real emergency to hesitate to call.

These F.A.Q.s are a sign of something that is very disheartening to me; reading the list makes me realize that there must be a lot of people under the influence of some drug or another, and “they walk among us” as well as drive on the roads, operate heavy machinery, work at their job, oh my god.

I wish you a happy and prosperous New Year.
metalman.

No drugs required for these performances. This really is how people think, or should I say process.
They do indeed walk among us. These are the same people that NEED the coolest gadgets, even though they have little to no idea what it could do or how to use it. These are the same people that keep paying those stupid cell fees and cable fees. This is why the service providers can keep charging sooo much, because these idiots exist in large numbers with the protection of society.

It’s too bad that Darwin is hindered so.

Maybe, if the phone companies started cutting off phone service to these people they might get the message.
